Technical Dossier
The Honeywell Master Logic 200 (ML200) is a modular programmable logic controller platform developed by Honeywell Industrial Automation. It has been deployed extensively across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical refineries, offshore oil and gas platforms, pulp and paper mills, power generation facilities, and nuclear auxiliary systems. The ML200 architecture is characterized by a rack-based backplane design supporting distributed I/O, redundant CPU configurations, and deterministic scan-cycle execution — properties that made it a preferred controller in safety-instrumented and process-critical environments throughout the 1990s and 2000s.
The 2MLP-ACF2-CC is the AC power supply module for the ML200 rack, providing regulated DC bus power to all installed modules via the backplane. It accepts 85–264 VAC input and delivers isolated 5 VDC and 24 VDC outputs to the rack. This module is a single point of failure in non-redundant configurations and is among the most frequently requested spare parts for ML200 installations still in active service.
The ML200 platform was introduced by Honeywell in the early 1990s as a mid-range PLC targeting process industries requiring deterministic control with moderate I/O density. The original architecture used a proprietary backplane bus operating at 5 MHz with a fixed rack format supporting up to 12 module slots. Early firmware revisions (pre-v3.x) required dedicated programming terminals running MS-DOS-based software; later revisions introduced RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces compatible with Honeywell's Control Builder environment.
By the late 1990s, Honeywell introduced enhanced CPU variants with expanded memory (from 16 KB to 128 KB ladder logic storage) and optional Ethernet communication adapters. The ML200 was positioned below the Honeywell HC900 and above the Micro PLC line, occupying the mid-tier segment. Compatibility between early and late ML200 hardware generations is generally maintained at the rack and backplane level, but CPU firmware versions must be matched to I/O module revisions to avoid bus arbitration faults.
Honeywell officially transitioned the ML200 to end-of-life (EOL) status, with last-time-buy notifications issued to registered integrators. The platform has no direct drop-in successor within Honeywell's current portfolio; migration paths typically involve the Honeywell ControlEdge PLC or third-party equivalents. As a result, the global installed base — estimated in the tens of thousands of racks — continues to rely on the secondary market for spare parts and lifecycle extension services.

For the 2MLP-ACF2-CC and other power supply variants, DriveKNMS holds tested units with verified output voltage tolerances. All units are inspected for capacitor degradation — the primary failure mode in aging ML200 power supplies — and reconditioned where applicable. For CPU modules such as the 2MLF-CPU2-CC and 2MLF-CPUE-CC, firmware version documentation is provided with each unit to ensure compatibility with the customer's existing rack configuration.
ML200 modules present specific test challenges due to their proprietary backplane bus protocol and the age-related degradation patterns common in equipment manufactured in the 1990s–2000s. DriveKNMS applies the following test procedures to all ML200 inventory:
Power Supply Modules (2MLP series): Full load burn-in at rated output current for 48 hours. Output voltage measured at ±0.5% tolerance bands. Ripple and noise measured with oscilloscope at 20 MHz bandwidth. Capacitor ESR tested on all electrolytic components.
CPU Modules (2MLF series): Firmware version verified and documented. Memory integrity tested via full read/write cycle. Serial port loopback test performed. Watchdog timer function verified.
I/O Modules (2MLI / 2MLO series): Each channel individually stimulated and verified against rated specifications. Optical isolator integrity tested. Terminal base connector contact resistance measured below 50 mΩ.
Communication Adapters (2MLC series): Network protocol handshake verified using reference master device. Baud rate and node address configuration tested across full supported range.
