Installed across petrochemical complexes, nuclear power stations, crude oil refineries, pulp and paper mills, and large-scale chemical manufacturing facilities, the TDC 3000/TPS platform has maintained a dominant installed base since its commercial introduction in the late 1970s. Its modular backplane architecture, deterministic control execution, and multi-tier network topology (Local Control Network / Plant Network / Universal Control Network) made it the reference standard for continuous process control for over three decades. The TDC 3000 platform was introduced by Honeywell in 1975 as the industry's first commercially viable DCS. Its architecture evolved through several distinct generations. The original TDC 2000 used a proprietary Data Hiway for node communication. TDC 3000 introduced the Local Control Network (LCN) operating at 5 Mbps, enabling peer-to-peer communication between High-Performance Process Managers (HPM), Application Modules (AM), History Modules (HM), and Universal Stations (US).
