The Honeywell Experion PKS platform, built around the C300 Controller and its associated Series C I/O infrastructure, was deployed extensively in refining, petrochemical, power generation, and pharmaceutical facilities from the early 2000s onward. Many of these installations remain in active production service today — not because operators are unaware of the end-of-life status, but because the cost and operational disruption of migration cannot be justified against current capital budgets.
The 8C-IP0101 sits at the field interface layer of this architecture. It handles the physical connection between field instruments and the controller logic. There is no software patch, no firmware update, and no configuration workaround that compensates for a failed unit. The module must be replaced with an identical part number and revision to maintain system integrity without re-engineering the I/O map.
Sourcing this module through standard distribution channels is no longer possible. Honeywell's authorized supply chain has been closed for this part number. The remaining global inventory exists only in the secondary market — held by specialist distributors, decommissioned plant asset sales, and industrial surplus operations. Each passing quarter, that pool shrinks.
How to extend your Experion PKS asset life by 5–10 years at a fraction of migration cost:
DriveKNMS applies a five-stage inspection protocol to all obsolete I/O modules before they are offered for sale. This process is designed specifically for the failure modes common to legacy DCS hardware that has been in storage or removed from service.
Units that do not pass all five stages are not listed. Condition grade (New Surplus, Tested Refurbished) is disclosed in writing at the time of quotation.
Should I buy one unit or build a long-term spare buffer?
For any facility running Experion PKS C300 with no confirmed migration timeline within the next five years, we recommend holding a minimum of two units per chassis type in climate-controlled storage. The global secondary market supply of 8C-series modules is contracting. Units available today will not be available at the same price — or at all — in 24 months.
Can you source other Honeywell Experion PKS components?
Yes. DriveKNMS specializes in obsolete and hard-to-find DCS, PLC, and industrial automation components across multiple platforms. Contact us with your full bill of materials for a consolidated quotation.
