Technical Dossier
The BX Series was introduced by Honeywell (formerly Micro Switch division) as a direct response to NEC Article 501 and IEC 60079 requirements for intrinsically safe and explosion-proof switching in Zone 1 / Zone 2 classified areas. Early production units used silver-alloy snap-action contacts rated at 10A / 600VAC, housed in a two-piece cast aluminum enclosure with NPT conduit entries. The BXA sub-family introduced modular actuator heads (BXM4N, BXM4R, BXM4L) that could be field-swapped without disturbing conduit wiring — a critical maintainability feature for turnaround-constrained refineries.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked models within the Honeywell BX Series. Units are classified by actuator type and contact configuration.
Explosion-Proof Limit Switches — Plunger & Roller Actuator
Inspection steps include: (1) visual examination of enclosure casting for cracks, corrosion, and conduit entry thread integrity; (2) continuity and insulation resistance testing on all contact circuits at 500VDC megohm test voltage; (3) snap-action mechanism verification — operating force, release force, and differential travel measured against Honeywell factory specification sheets; (4) actuator head alignment check and roller bearing condition assessment; (5) IP67 seal integrity verification via pressurized air test on enclosure joints; (6) functional cycle test — minimum 50 actuations under rated load to confirm contact bounce and wipe characteristics. Units that do not meet all acceptance criteria are quarantined and not offered for sale.
