Technical Dossier
The Experion PKS platform was introduced by Honeywell in the early 2000s as a successor to the TDC 3000 and PlantScape systems. The C300 Controller replaced the earlier C200 and C200E controllers, introducing a 64-bit processing architecture, expanded memory, and native FTE dual-ring redundancy. The I/O subsystem evolved from the original Series C I/O (SCIO) modules to the current CIOM-A (C300 I/O Module Assembly) chassis, which supports hot-swap replacement without process interruption.
Key architectural milestones include the introduction of the CHARM (Characterization Module) I/O subsystem in later Experion R400+ releases, which enabled field-level signal characterization and reduced marshalling cabinet footprint. However, the standard C300 IOTA-based I/O modules — including the CC-PAIH01 and CC-PAIX01 — remain the dominant hardware in pre-R400 installations and continue to be specified in brownfield expansion projects due to backward compatibility requirements. Facilities running Experion R210 through R500 must maintain compatibility with these module families, creating sustained long-term demand for spare parts and lifecycle support.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of C300 Series modules sourced through certified secondary market channels. All units are subject to full functional verification prior to dispatch. For end-users operating facilities under long-term service agreements (LTSA) or operating beyond the Honeywell standard support window, DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including cross-reference identification, revision-level matching, and firmware compatibility verification. Customers requiring bill-of-materials (BOM) matching for insurance or regulatory audit purposes are supported with full traceability documentation.
C300 Series modules operate on a proprietary backplane bus with time-deterministic communication protocols. Standard bench testing is insufficient to validate module integrity for process-critical applications. DriveKNMS applies a structured test protocol for all C300 modules:
Modules that fail any stage of this protocol are quarantined and not offered for sale. This process is specifically designed to address the failure modes common to C300 backplane-dependent modules, including bus arbitration faults, EEPROM corruption, and capacitor degradation in power supply circuits.
