The FC-PSU lineage originates from Honeywell's FSC (Fail-Safe Controller) platform, introduced in the 1990s as a dedicated safety instrumented system (SIS) controller. Early power supply modules in this family were fixed-voltage, single-output units designed for the FSC chassis backplane. As the platform evolved into the Safety Manager (SM) and Safety Manager SC (SMSC) generations, the power supply architecture was revised to support wider input voltage ranges, higher output current capacities, and dual-redundant configurations.

The transition from FSC to Safety Manager introduced universal input modules (e.g., FC-PSU-UNI2450U) capable of accepting both 24 VDC and 120/240 VAC inputs — a significant architectural shift that simplified global deployment.
