The Evolution of FC Series Architecture

The FC Series traces its lineage to the Honeywell FSC (Fail-Safe Controller) platform introduced in the late 1980s, originally developed by Hima and subsequently integrated into Honeywell's safety systems portfolio. Early-generation hardware operated on a 24 VDC bus with discrete I/O modules communicating over a proprietary backplane. The transition to the Safety Manager (SM) generation in the 2000s introduced Ethernet-based engineering workstation connectivity, expanded the I/O module count per chassis, and added support for HART pass-through on analog input cards.

The FC-PSU family — of which the FC-PSU-UNI2450 is a primary member — provides the regulated DC power infrastructure for the entire chassis. The UNI2450 designation indicates a universal input range (85–264 VAC, 47–63 Hz) with a 24 VDC / 50 W output, designed for redundant power supply configurations. Compatibility spans FSC Generation 2 through Safety Manager R210 firmware environments. Facilities running legacy FSC hardware must verify backplane connector revision (Rev. A vs. Rev.
