Technical Dossier
The ICS Triplex T9400 Series is a safety-rated, fault-tolerant I/O and control module family developed for deployment in high-consequence industrial environments. It forms the hardware backbone of the Trusted® Safety System — a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) platform certified to IEC 61508 SIL 3. Installed across petrochemical complexes, offshore oil & gas platforms, nuclear power generation facilities, LNG terminals, and continuous-process refineries worldwide, the T9400 Series represents one of the most widely deployed safety instrumented system (SIS) hardware families in global heavy industry. Its architecture supports hot-swap module replacement without process interruption, making it the preferred choice for facilities with zero-downtime maintenance requirements. The series remains operational in thousands of legacy installations, many of which have been in continuous service for over two decades.
The T9400 Series was introduced as part of ICS Triplex's second-generation Trusted® platform, succeeding the earlier T8000 chassis-based architecture. The transition introduced a modular backplane design with dedicated I/O slots, a standardized 32-channel density per module, and a high-speed TMR voting bus that operates independently of the process I/O bus. Early revisions (pre-2005) used parallel backplane communication; later hardware revisions migrated to a serial TMR bus, improving noise immunity in high-EMI environments such as motor control centers and substation switchgear rooms.
Compatibility considerations are critical for maintenance engineers: T9400 modules are not backward-compatible with T8000 chassis hardware. Within the T9400 family, firmware revision alignment between the T9110 Trusted Communications Unit (TCU) and field I/O modules is mandatory — mismatched firmware versions will cause the module to enter a fault state. As of 2020, Honeywell Process Solutions (which acquired ICS Triplex in 2006) formally classified the T9400 Series as a mature/end-of-active-development product line. No new firmware releases are planned; however, the platform remains fully supported under Honeywell's Extended Lifecycle Support program, and replacement modules continue to be sourced through authorized distributors and specialist spare-parts suppliers such as DriveKNMS.
The following SKUs represent the core module population of the T9400 Series, organized by functional category. All models are designed for use within the ICS Triplex Trusted® TMR chassis.
Digital Input (DI) Modules
Digital Output (DO) Modules
Analog Input (AI) Modules
Analog Output (AO) Modules

With the T9400 Series in its extended lifecycle phase, procurement of replacement modules through standard distribution channels has become increasingly constrained. Lead times from OEM sources frequently exceed 16–26 weeks for low-volume orders, and certain SKUs — particularly the T9100, T9201, and T9311 — have been formally discontinued with no new-manufacture stock available.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of T9400 Series modules sourced from decommissioned plant assets, controlled surplus, and verified refurbishment programs. All units are inspected against original ICS Triplex hardware specifications prior to dispatch. DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including: module-level availability checks within 24 hours, cross-reference matching for superseded part numbers, and documentation of hardware revision levels to ensure chassis compatibility. For facilities operating under IEC 61511 functional safety management requirements, DriveKNMS can supply modules with full traceability documentation upon request.
The T9400 Series presents specific technical challenges during incoming inspection due to its TMR voting architecture and high-density backplane connector interface. DriveKNMS applies a structured test protocol to all T9400 modules prior to shipment:
