KUKA discontinued the KR C2 platform and its associated peripherals, including the KCP2 teach pendant, as the industry transitioned to the KR C4 architecture. However, tens of thousands of KR C2 cells remain in active production globally — particularly in automotive tier-1 suppliers, white goods manufacturers, and metal fabrication plants that made capital investments in the early 2000s and have no budget cycle for full cell replacement.
The KCP2 is not a peripheral accessory. It is the only device through which an operator can jog axes, modify programs, acknowledge faults, and perform mastering procedures on a KR C2 controller. There is no software workaround. There is no USB adapter. If the KCP2 fails and no replacement exists on-site, the robot is inoperable — period.
The decision to retire a robot cell is rarely driven by the robot itself. Mechanical arms with proper lubrication schedules routinely operate for 20–25 years. The decision is forced by the failure of a single discontinued electronic component — a teach pendant, a servo drive, a power supply board — for which no replacement can be found. This is a procurement failure, not an engineering one.
A structured spare parts strategy can defer a multi-million-dollar capital expenditure by a decade:
How do I confirm the unit is genuine and not counterfeit?
All units supplied by DriveKNMS carry original KUKA part markings. We provide the serial number and firmware version prior to shipment so your engineering team can verify authenticity against KUKA's part numbering convention before the unit ships.
Can this pendant be used with KR C4 controllers?
No. The KCP2 is electrically and protocol-incompatible with the KR C4 platform, which uses the smartPAD (00-168-334). The 00-130-547 is exclusively for KR C2 and KR C3 controllers.
