The LUST LSG series represents a line of permanent-magnet synchronous servo motors engineered for precision motion control in heavy industrial environments. Deployed extensively in chemical processing plants, refinery automation systems, paper and printing machinery, plastics extrusion lines, and packaging equipment across Europe and Asia, the LSG series has accumulated a substantial installed base that continues to require active spare parts support. The motors are characterized by their compact flange-mount design (IEC standard), high torque density, low cogging, and compatibility with LUST CDA and LTI servo drive platforms. Their resolver or encoder feedback options make them interoperable with a range of third-party drive controllers, extending their operational relevance beyond the LUST ecosystem.

The Evolution of LSG Series Architecture

The LUST LSG series was developed as part of LUST Antriebstechnik GmbH's motion control portfolio, which was later absorbed into the Lenze Group. Early LSG variants used resolver-based feedback systems and were paired with the CDA 3000 and CDA 4000 servo drive families. As the product line matured, incremental encoder variants were introduced to support applications requiring higher positional resolution. The motor frame sizes follow IEC 72 flange standards (size 063, 071, 090, 096, 112, 132), allowing mechanical interchangeability within the same frame class. Later production runs incorporated improved winding insulation classes (Class F and Class H) to support higher ambient temperature operation in foundry and steel mill environments. With the consolidation of LUST into Lenze, the LSG series entered a maintenance-only lifecycle phase. Replacement equivalents within the Lenze MCS/MCA servo motor families are the recommended modern substitutes, though direct dimensional and electrical compatibility must be verified on a case-by-case basis. The procedure includes: visual inspection of shaft, flange, and connector integrity; winding resistance measurement (phase-to-phase and phase-to-ground) against OEM reference values; insulation resistance test at 500 VDC (minimum 100 MΩ); resolver or encoder signal verification using a dedicated servo drive test bench; no-load run test at rated speed to confirm bearing condition and absence of cogging anomalies; and brake engagement/release force measurement on brake-equipped variants. Motors exhibiting winding degradation, resolver offset drift beyond ±0.5°, or bearing noise above OEM threshold are quarantined and not offered for resale.
