MECOS MBE3 Series Technical Notes

The Evolution of MBE3 Architecture

The MBE3 series succeeded earlier MECOS drive generations (including the MBE1 and MBE2 platforms) as the company refined its digital signal processing architecture for magnetic bearing control. Early MBE3 units utilized analog feedback loops with limited digital parameterization. Mid-generation revisions introduced fieldbus communication interfaces (RS-232, CAN) and expanded the power range to accommodate larger bearing loads. Later variants incorporated enhanced EMC shielding and updated firmware for compatibility with MECOS AMB (Active Magnetic Bearing) controllers. The MBE3-50 specifically targets mid-range power applications (nominally 50 W continuous output) and is commonly paired with MECOS radial and axial bearing actuators in high-speed rotating machinery. As the MBE3 series has entered its mature/end-of-life phase, OEM production has ceased for most variants. Operators of legacy installations must rely on certified aftermarket suppliers for replacement units, as direct manufacturer support is limited to contracted maintenance agreements.

MBE3 Full Catalog & Functionalities (SKU List)

The following SKUs represent the documented MBE3 series range. Each unit is classified by its primary function within a magnetic bearing or servo control system:

MBE3-10: 10 W compact servo amplifier for light-load radial bearing axes.
MBE3-20: 20 W single-axis drive for auxiliary bearing control loops.
MBE3-30: 30 W mid-range amplifier, radial bearing primary axis applications.
MBE3-40: 40 W drive module for dual-axis bearing configurations.
MBE3-50: 50 W standard servo drive; primary SKU for mid-power AMB actuator control.
MBE3-60: 60 W extended-power variant for high-load radial bearing channels.
MBE3-75: 75 W high-output amplifier for axial bearing thrust control.
MBE3-100: 100 W drive for large-diameter bearing systems in compressor trains.
MBE3-150: 150 W heavy-duty module for industrial turbomachinery bearing axes.
MBE3-200: 200 W high-power variant for multi-axis bearing control racks.
MBE3-50/R: Redundant-channel version of MBE3-50 for safety-critical installations.
MBE3-50/D: Differential-input variant of MBE3-50 for noise-sensitive environments.
MBE3-100/R: Redundant 100 W module for continuous-duty turbine bearing systems.
MBE3-PS24: 24 VDC auxiliary power supply module for MBE3 rack systems.
MBE3-BUS: Backplane bus interface card for multi-axis MBE3 drive racks.
MBE3-COM: RS-232/CAN communication adapter for MBE3 series parameterization.
MBE3-IO: Digital/analog I/O expansion module for MBE3 control systems.
