Technical Dossier
The Parker C3 Series is a family of general-purpose AC variable frequency drives (VFDs) manufactured by Parker Hannifin Corporation, one of the world's leading motion and control technology companies. The C3 Series occupies a well-established position in global heavy industry, with documented installations across petrochemical refineries, chemical processing plants, water treatment facilities, pulp and paper mills, and power generation stations including nuclear auxiliary systems. Its compact DIN-rail and panel-mount form factors, combined with a wide input voltage tolerance and embedded EMC filtering options, made it a preferred drive platform for OEM machine builders and system integrators throughout its production lifecycle.
The C3 Series covers output power ratings from 0.25 kW (0.33 HP) through 22 kW (30 HP) in single-phase and three-phase input configurations, with output voltage classes of 200–240 V and 380–480 V. The drive architecture is based on a standard V/Hz scalar control algorithm with optional sensorless vector control, providing adequate torque response for pump, fan, conveyor, and compressor applications without encoder feedback.
The Parker C3 Series was introduced as a successor to the earlier Parker SSD (now Eurotherm) low-voltage drive range, consolidating the product line under the Parker Hannifin brand following the acquisition of SSD Drives. Early C3 hardware revisions (Rev A/B) used a discrete IGBT gate driver board separate from the main control PCB, which created a known failure mode under high-humidity environments — a documented issue in coastal refinery installations. Subsequent hardware revisions (Rev C onward) integrated the gate driver circuitry onto the power board, improving MTBF figures.
The control board architecture uses a fixed-function DSP with parameter storage in non-volatile EEPROM. Parameter sets are not forward-compatible between major hardware revisions, which is a critical consideration when replacing a failed unit with a different revision. The drive communicates via an onboard RS-485 port supporting Modbus RTU as standard; optional plug-in communication cards extend compatibility to PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet, and CANopen networks — a requirement in many DCS-integrated plant environments.
The C3 Series has entered the mature/end-of-life phase of its product lifecycle. Parker Hannifin has transitioned current production to the AC30 Series and AC10 Series platforms. However, the installed base of C3 drives in long-lifecycle industrial plants (refineries, water utilities, power stations) remains substantial, creating sustained demand for spare units, replacement control boards, and compatible plug-in option cards. DriveKNMS maintains stock of both new-old-stock (NOS) and professionally refurbished C3 units to support this installed base.
The following SKUs represent the core of the Parker C3 Series product range. Models are organized by functional category. All part numbers listed are verified C3 Series members.
Single-Phase Input / Three-Phase Output — 200–240 V Class
Three-Phase Input / Three-Phase Output — 200–240 V Class
Three-Phase Input / Three-Phase Output — 380–480 V Class
Note: Suffix codes decode as follows — D2/D4: voltage class (240 V / 480 V); F12/F32: input phase (1-ph / 3-ph); I31: standard digital/analog I/O configuration; T30: ambient temperature rating; M00: no optional communication card fitted.
With the C3 Series now discontinued from Parker Hannifin's active production schedule, procurement teams at refineries, utilities, and OEM service organizations face a narrowing supply window. Authorized distributor stock has largely been depleted, and the secondary market contains a significant proportion of untested or cosmetically refurbished units misrepresented as functional.
DriveKNMS operates a dedicated obsolete parts procurement program for the Parker C3 Series. Our inventory sourcing network spans manufacturer closeout stock, decommissioned plant asset recovery, and vetted secondary market channels across North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. We maintain a rolling inventory of C3 control boards, power boards, IGBT modules, and complete drive assemblies across the full power range.
The Parker C3 Series presents specific test challenges due to its integrated power/control architecture and the age-related degradation patterns common in drives that have been in service for 10–20 years. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all C3 units processed through our facility:
