The Evolution of 890CD Architecture

The 890CD series succeeded the earlier 890 and 590+ drive families, inheriting the field-proven SSD Drives control platform while introducing a modular DC bus topology. Early 890CD units (pre-2005) used analog reference inputs and relied on DSELite software for commissioning. From 2006 onward, Parker introduced the DSE Lite v5 and later DSE890 configuration tools, enabling full parameter backup, drive-to-drive cloning, and fieldbus integration via plug-in option cards. The architecture supports PROFIBUS-DP, DeviceNet, CANopen, Modbus RTU/TCP, and EtherNet/IP communication modules, all hot-swappable on the front-panel option slot. Later revisions introduced Safe Torque Off (STO) as a standard safety function compliant with IEC 61800-5-2 SIL2/PLd, replacing the earlier external contactor-based safety circuits.
