The BMX architecture introduced the X Bus (local rack extension) and Ethernet I/O Bus (distributed I/O via BMXNOE/BMXNOC adapters), replacing the earlier Modbus Plus topology used in Quantum systems.
Key architectural milestones: the BMXP341000 (original Unity Pro v2.x CPU) established the base instruction set; the BMXP342020 introduced dual Ethernet ports and web server diagnostics; the BMXP3420302 added Ethernet redundancy (Hot Standby) capability. Firmware compatibility between CPU generations is version-gated — Unity Pro XL v13+ is required for BMXP342020H Hot Standby configurations.
