The SUPCON XP300 series represents one of the most widely deployed distributed control system (DCS) and programmable logic controller (PLC) platforms in Chinese heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, coal chemical complexes, nuclear auxiliary systems, and large-scale power generation facilities, the XP300 platform has accumulated a substantial installed base since its commercial introduction in the early 2000s. SUPCON (Zhejiang Supcon Technology Co., Ltd.), headquartered in Hangzhou, China, developed the XP300 series as the I/O and controller backbone of its JX-300X and JX-300XP DCS architectures — systems that remain operational in thousands of process plants across Asia, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia. The XP316, as a representative analog input module within this series, exemplifies the platform's design philosophy: high channel density, HART protocol compatibility, and direct integration with the SCnet II redundant communication bus.
The XP300 series was introduced as the I/O subsystem for SUPCON's JX-300X DCS platform, which itself succeeded the earlier JX-100 and JX-200 generations. The JX-300X platform standardized on the SCnet fieldbus for inter-module communication, with the XP300 I/O modules connecting to the main controller via a proprietary backplane bus. When SUPCON released the JX-300XP (the "P" denoting enhanced processing), the XP300 module family was carried forward with full backward compatibility, allowing existing installations to upgrade controllers without replacing field I/O wiring or terminal assemblies.
Over successive hardware revisions, SUPCON improved the XP300 modules' isolation ratings, increased channel-to-channel isolation voltage, and added HART pass-through capability to analog I/O modules. Later revisions also addressed EMC compliance for IEC 61000-series requirements. As of 2026, the XP300 series is in the mature-to-declining phase of its product lifecycle. SUPCON's current flagship DCS platform, the ECS-700, uses a different I/O architecture (the XP series is not directly compatible). This lifecycle status makes long-term spare parts availability a critical operational concern for plants that cannot justify a full DCS migration.
