Technical Dossier
The ABB NFOA Series represents ABB's standardized pneumatic rotary actuator platform, engineered for quarter-turn valve automation in continuous-process industries. Installed across petrochemical refineries, offshore platforms, nuclear auxiliary systems, and chemical processing plants globally, the NFOA Series is recognized for its double-acting and spring-return configurations, modular positioner mounting, and compliance with ISO 5211 flange standards. The series interfaces directly with ABB's TZID-C and TZIDC positioner range, enabling full HART and FOUNDATION Fieldbus integration within DCS architectures including ABB System 800xA and ABB Freelance. Its aluminum alloy rack-and-pinion mechanism delivers torque outputs from 10 Nm to over 2,000 Nm, covering the majority of on/off and modulating valve applications in heavy industry.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly sourced models within the ABB NFOA Series. Units are classified by actuator type and torque class:
Double-Acting Actuators
Spring-Return Actuators (Fail-Safe)
Positioner-Integrated & Accessory Variants
Each NFOA Series unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured inspection protocol specific to pneumatic rotary actuators. Incoming units are disassembled to sub-component level; the rack-and-pinion gear set is inspected for tooth wear and backlash beyond OEM tolerance. Piston seals and O-rings are replaced as standard. The aluminum body is pressure-tested at 1.5× maximum operating pressure (MOP) using dry nitrogen. Spring cartridges in spring-return variants are load-tested to verify fail-safe torque output at minimum supply pressure. End-stop adjustment is verified against the valve's mechanical travel limits. Reassembled units are cycled a minimum of 25 times under full operating pressure before final acceptance. All test data is recorded and supplied with the unit. Units destined for SIL-rated or ESD service are subject to additional documentation review per IEC 61511 requirements.
