The 5461 Series was introduced as part of Woodward's second-generation digital governor platform, succeeding relay-logic and analog control systems. Early revisions (pre-1995) used through-hole PCB construction with discrete linear regulators. Mid-generation units (1995–2005) transitioned to surface-mount components and introduced improved EMI filtering to meet IEC 61000-4 immunity requirements for industrial environments.
