The SDV5 series succeeded YOKOGAWA's earlier YVP series positioners, inheriting the core HART 5/7 communication stack while introducing a redesigned electro-pneumatic converter and an onboard microprocessor for auto-calibration and valve signature diagnostics. Early SDV5 variants (circa 2005–2010) focused on basic position feedback and analog I/P conversion. Mid-generation models introduced enhanced PST functionality compliant with IEC 61511 for safety instrumented systems. Current production variants support advanced valve diagnostics including friction analysis, dead band detection, and response time trending — data exportable via HART DD or FDT/DTM frameworks.
