Technical Dossier
The KOLLMORGEN SERVOSTAR 600 series is a family of digital servo amplifiers engineered for precision motion control in continuous-duty industrial environments. Deployed across chemical processing plants, nuclear facilities, oil refineries, paper mills, and heavy-duty manufacturing lines, the SERVOSTAR 600 platform has established a long-term installed base in applications where axis positioning accuracy, dynamic response, and bus-level integration are non-negotiable. The series supports single-axis and multi-axis configurations, interfaces with major fieldbus protocols, and is compatible with KOLLMORGEN's AKM, RBE, and Cartridge DDL motor families. Its architecture is based on a DSP-controlled current loop with a cycle time of 62.5 µs, enabling high-bandwidth torque control suitable for demanding servo applications.
The SERVOSTAR 600 series succeeded the earlier SERVOSTAR CD and SERVOSTAR S300/S600 analog-era platforms, representing KOLLMORGEN's transition to fully digital, DSP-based servo control in the late 1990s and early 2000s. Early variants in the 600 series used RS-232 and RS-485 serial interfaces for commissioning via the DRIVE.EXE and later WorkBench v5 software environments. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced native CANopen (CiA 402 profile) and PROFIBUS-DP communication options as plug-in option cards, enabling integration into Siemens SIMATIC, Beckhoff TwinCAT, and other PLC-based architectures without external gateways.
The -AS suffix designation (as in SERVOSTAR 610-AS) denotes the analog/step-direction input variant, accepting ±10 V analog command signals and step/direction pulse inputs — the standard interface for CNC controllers and legacy motion controllers. Later revisions added SFD (Smart Feedback Device) and EnDat 2.1/2.2 encoder support, expanding compatibility with high-resolution feedback devices. The series entered its mature/end-of-production phase in the mid-2010s, with KOLLMORGEN transitioning customers toward the AKD and AKD2G platforms. However, the SERVOSTAR 600 remains in active service across thousands of installed axes globally, making long-term spare parts availability a critical operational requirement.

Accessories & Option Cards
SERVOSTAR 600 units processed by DriveKNMS undergo a structured inspection protocol specific to the series' known failure modes. Each unit is powered up on a dedicated servo test bench with a matched inductive load to verify DC bus regulation, current loop response, and fault code behavior. The SFD and incremental encoder feedback interfaces are tested with reference encoders to confirm signal integrity. Fieldbus option cards (CANopen, PROFIBUS-DP) are verified for node address recognition and cyclic data exchange using protocol analyzers. Units exhibiting capacitor degradation on the DC bus filter stage, IGBT gate drive anomalies, or corrupted firmware are quarantined and not offered for resale. Only units passing full functional verification are listed as available stock.
