Technical Dossier
When a control module like the ABB XP01 fails inside a legacy H&B Contronic XP distributed control system, the consequences extend far beyond a single line stoppage. A full DCS platform migration — including engineering, commissioning, operator retraining, and production downtime — routinely exceeds seven figures. The XP01 module is no longer manufactured. Finding a verified, functional unit on the open market is the only alternative to that capital expenditure. DriveKNMS maintains physical stock of discontinued ABB and H&B Contronic components specifically to serve facilities that cannot afford — or are not ready — to abandon their existing automation infrastructure.

The H&B Contronic XP platform was widely deployed across European and Asian process industries throughout the 1980s and 1990s. ABB's acquisition of Hartmann & Braun brought the product line under a new corporate umbrella, but did not extend the manufacturing lifecycle of legacy modules such as the XP01. These units are now firmly outside ABB's active support window.
For plant managers operating facilities built around this DCS architecture, the XP01 is not a peripheral component — it is a load-bearing element of the control topology. Its failure without a verified replacement on hand forces one of three outcomes: unplanned production shutdown, emergency sourcing at premium cost from unverified brokers, or premature commitment to a full system migration that the capital budget cannot absorb in the current fiscal cycle.
Maintaining a buffer stock of XP01 modules is the lowest-cost risk mitigation available. A single verified spare, sourced and tested before a failure event, can extend the operational life of an entire DCS installation by five to ten years — deferring a migration project until it can be planned, budgeted, and executed on the facility's own schedule rather than under emergency conditions.
DriveKNMS sources XP01 units through controlled channels, inspects each unit before dispatch, and provides documentation to support your internal maintenance records. This is not spot-market speculation — it is structured asset protection for aging automation infrastructure.
Every XP01 unit shipped by DriveKNMS passes a five-stage inspection protocol before it leaves our facility:
Units are classified as New Old Stock (NOS), Tested Serviceable, or Refurbished — and labeled accordingly on all shipping documentation. We do not ship untested units.
What warranty applies to a discontinued module like the XP01?
DriveKNMS provides a 90-day functional warranty on all tested and refurbished units. New Old Stock units carry a 30-day DOA guarantee. Warranty terms are confirmed in writing at the time of order.
How do I know the unit is genuine and not a counterfeit?
All XP01 units are sourced from decommissioned plant equipment, authorized surplus channels, or verified industrial estates. Physical markings, board revision codes, and component dates are inspected as part of our intake process. We provide photographic documentation of the specific unit prior to shipment upon request.
Should I purchase more than one unit?
For any facility where the Contronic XP platform remains in active production service, holding a minimum of two XP01 spares is a defensible maintenance strategy. The cost of a second unit is a fraction of one hour of unplanned downtime on a process line. Given that stock of discontinued modules depletes permanently — there is no reorder from the manufacturer — early procurement is the only reliable hedge.
Can you source other H&B Contronic XP modules?
Yes. DriveKNMS maintains an active sourcing network for the broader Contronic XP module family. Contact us with your full BOM or specific part numbers for availability assessment.
