Advantech UNO-1372G Series: Comprehensive Module Range and Technical Overview

The Advantech UNO-1372G series is a line of fanless embedded automation computers built on Intel Core i7/i5/i3 and Celeron processors (Haswell/Broadwell generation). These units are deployed across global heavy industry verticals including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary control systems, offshore oil & gas platforms, and continuous-process chemical plants. The UNO-1372G platform is DIN-rail mountable, operates across a wide temperature range (−20°C to 60°C), and supports 24 VDC unregulated power input — characteristics that make it a standard-specification controller node in distributed control system (DCS) and SCADA architectures. Its dual Gigabit Ethernet ports, four isolated COM ports, and four USB 3.0 interfaces allow direct integration with field instruments, HMI panels, and plant-wide Ethernet backbones without additional interface hardware.

The Evolution of UNO-1372G Architecture

The UNO-1372G is positioned within Advantech's second-generation UNO (Universal Network Object) embedded computer platform. The original UNO-1000 series (circa 2005–2010) used x86 Atom processors and was limited to single Ethernet and two COM ports — adequate for isolated machine control but insufficient for networked DCS topologies. The UNO-2000 series introduced dual LAN and expanded I/O but remained thermally constrained under sustained industrial loads.

The UNO-1372G (introduced circa 2014–2015) addressed these constraints by adopting the Intel QM87 Express chipset with 4th-generation Core processors, enabling hardware-accelerated virtualization (VT-x/VT-d), AES-NI encryption, and ECC memory support on select SKUs. The platform supports Windows 10 IoT Enterprise LTSB, Windows Embedded Standard 7, and Linux kernel 4.x distributions — a critical requirement for plants migrating from legacy SCADA software to modern OPC-UA-based architectures.

By 2020, the UNO-1372G series entered the mature/end-of-active-production phase. Advantech's current recommended migration path is toward the UNO-2484G (8th-gen Core, PCIe expansion) or UNO-148 series for edge AI workloads. However, installed base density in brownfield plants means UNO-1372G units remain in active service with 10–15 year maintenance horizons. Long-term spare parts availability and board-level repair support are therefore primary procurement considerations for plant maintenance engineers.

Sourcing Hard-to-Find & Obsolete UNO-1372G Parts

As the UNO-1372G series has transitioned out of active production, standard distribution channels — including Advantech's authorized reseller network — carry diminishing stock of specific SKU configurations, particularly low-volume processor/storage combinations and factory-installed OS variants. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for mature and end-of-life Advantech UNO platform units.

Our sourcing protocol for UNO-1372G includes: direct acquisition from decommissioned plant assets, certified refurbishment of pulled units with full functional verification, and cross-referencing of compatible mSATA SSD and DDR3L SODIMM replacements against Advantech's qualified vendor list (QVL). For plants operating under IEC 61511 (functional safety) or ISA-99 (industrial cybersecurity) frameworks, we provide documentation packages including test reports and component traceability records upon request.

Quality Control for the UNO-1372G Range

Each UNO-1372G unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification sequence specific to the platform's hardware architecture. The QM87 chipset's PCIe lanes are stress-tested under sustained I/O load to identify degraded NVMe/mSATA controller performance. The four isolated RS-232/422/485 COM ports are individually loopback-tested at 115200 baud with error-rate measurement. Dual GbE ports are verified for full-duplex throughput at 1 Gbps using RFC 2544 test methodology.

Power input conditioning is tested across the full 9–36 VDC input range to confirm proper operation at both low-voltage (battery-backed UPS) and high-voltage (direct 24 VDC plant bus) supply conditions. Thermal performance is validated by running the unit at maximum CPU load (Prime95 or equivalent) in a 55°C ambient chamber for a minimum of 4 hours. Units that do not meet Advantech's original published specifications are either repaired to component level or quarantined from inventory.
