Technical Dossier
Rockwell Automation introduced the Kinetix 5700 platform as the successor to the Kinetix 6500 and Kinetix 6200 series, addressing limitations in bus voltage scalability and multi-axis density. Early Kinetix platforms (5000, 6000 series) relied on individual AC input per drive, creating wiring complexity and energy inefficiency at scale. The Kinetix 5700 resolved this through a centralized DC bus supply model: a single Capacitor Module or Regenerative Bus Supply feeds multiple inverter modules, enabling regenerative energy sharing between axes.
The architecture evolved through three identifiable phases: (1) Initial release with 460V AC bus supplies and standard ERS (EtherNet/IP) communication; (2) Introduction of ERS2 variants with enhanced safety (STO, SS1, SLS via integrated Safe Speed Monitor); (3) ERS3 variants incorporating expanded safe motion functions (SDI, SLP, SOS) compliant with IEC 62061 SIL 2 and ISO 13849-1 PLd. The 2198-D006-ERS3 represents the current-generation dual-axis inverter module at the 6A continuous output rating within the ERS3 safety revision. Backward compatibility with earlier 2198-series bus infrastructure is maintained at the hardware level, though firmware and safety configuration files are revision-specific and must be managed through ControlFLASH Plus.

DriveKNMS sources verified surplus and refurbished Kinetix 5700 modules through audited supply chains, providing revision-matched replacements to eliminate re-commissioning risk. All units are inspected for DC bus capacitor condition, IGBT integrity, and firmware revision prior to dispatch. For end-of-life ERS and ERS2 modules, DriveKNMS provides documented revision history and, where applicable, coordinates with Rockwell Automation authorized service centers for firmware upgrade paths to ERS3 compliance.
Kinetix 5700 dual-axis modules such as the 2198-D006-ERS3 incorporate a shared DC bus backplane interface and dual independent IGBT inverter stages, each requiring independent functional verification. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all Kinetix 5700 units processed through its facility:
