Technical Dossier
The Bently Nevada 3300 Series is one of the most widely deployed proximity probe and vibration monitoring systems in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, LNG terminals, and rotating machinery facilities, the 3300 Series forms the sensing backbone of machinery protection systems (MPS) that operate continuously under ISO 10816 and API 670 standards. Its eddy-current-based proximity sensing technology provides non-contact measurement of shaft displacement, radial vibration, axial position, and phase reference — parameters that are critical for turbine, compressor, and pump protection. The system interfaces directly with Bently Nevada 3500 Series rack-based monitors, making it a foundational component in both legacy and active plant configurations worldwide.
The 3300 Series was introduced by Bently Nevada (acquired by GE in 2002, now part of Baker Hughes) as a standardized eddy-current proximity transducer system designed for industrial machinery monitoring. Early-generation 3300 probes used a fixed-length integral cable design with a 5-meter or 9-meter armored extension cable and a dedicated proximitor (signal conditioner). The architecture is a three-component system: the probe tip, the extension cable, and the proximitor/driver. Each component is matched by series and must be used as a calibrated set to maintain ±1% full-scale accuracy.
Over successive generations, the 3300 Series evolved to support a wider range of gap voltages (standard -18 VDC output), temperature ratings (standard -35°C to +177°C probe tip), and target material compensation. The XL variant introduced enhanced EMI shielding and extended temperature tolerance for high-vibration environments. The 3300 NSv (Non-Standard Voltage) sub-series addressed installations requiring custom output ranges. Compatibility with the 3500 rack system has been maintained across all generations, though older 3300/05 and 3300/16 proximitors require verification against current 3500 monitor firmware revisions. As the 3300 Series has entered its mature/end-of-active-production phase for several sub-models, long-term maintenance support — including tested surplus and remanufactured units — has become the primary sourcing channel for plant operators committed to avoiding costly system-wide upgrades.
