Technical Dossier
The Bently Nevada 3300 Series Proximity Transducer System is one of the most widely deployed eddy-current sensing platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, LNG terminals, and rotating machinery facilities, the 3300 Series provides continuous, non-contact measurement of shaft radial vibration, axial position, and differential expansion. Its architecture conforms to API 670 machinery protection standards, making it the reference-grade solution for turbomachinery monitoring in critical process environments. The system operates on the eddy-current principle: a probe tip generates a radio-frequency electromagnetic field; as a conductive target surface approaches, eddy currents are induced, reducing the field and producing a voltage output proportional to the gap distance. This signal chain — probe, extension cable, and proximitor/driver — must be matched as a calibrated system to maintain measurement accuracy within ±0.5% of full scale.
The 3300 Series was introduced by Bently Nevada (now a Baker Hughes company) as a successor to the earlier 7200 and 3000 Series transducer families. The original 3300 platform standardized the 5-meter and 9-meter cable configurations and established the -24 VDC proximitor supply voltage that remains the industry norm. Early variants used discrete analog circuitry with fixed sensitivity outputs of 7.87 V/mm (200 mV/mil). Subsequent revisions introduced the XL (Extended Length) cable option, allowing probe-to-proximitor separations up to 15 meters for installations where the junction box must be located outside the hazardous area. The NSv (Non-Standard voltage) sub-family extended compatibility to 18–30 VDC supply ranges, addressing installations on legacy DCS racks with non-standard power rails. The 3300 Series is now classified as a mature/end-of-active-production platform. Bently Nevada has transitioned new project specifications toward the 3500 Series rack-based monitoring system and the Trendmaster Pro continuous monitoring platform. However, the installed base of 3300 Series hardware in operating plants remains substantial, and direct replacement parts continue to be required for maintenance, turnaround, and life extension programs through at least the 2030s. Compatibility note: 3300 Series probes and extension cables are not interchangeable with 3500 Series transducer sets without recalibration; the proximitor driver electronics are series-specific.

Each 3300 Series unit processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification protocol specific to eddy-current transducer systems. Proximitor output voltage is measured across the full gap range (0–2.54 mm for 8mm probes) using a calibrated target fixture to verify sensitivity (7.87 V/mm ± 5%) and linearity. Supply current draw is checked against the Bently Nevada specification sheet to identify internal component degradation. Extension cable assemblies are tested for coaxial impedance continuity, connector contact resistance (<0.1 Ω), and shield integrity. Probe tip geometry and thread condition are inspected under magnification; any unit with tip wear, corrosion pitting, or deformed threads is rejected. Junction boxes are pressure-tested for IP/NEMA rating compliance. All test data is recorded per unit serial number and provided with the shipment as a quality certificate. Units that do not meet specification are not offered for sale.
