Technical Dossier
The Bently Nevada 3300 Series is one of the most widely deployed eddy-current proximity transducer systems in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, LNG terminals, and rotating machinery facilities, the 3300 Series provides continuous, non-contact measurement of shaft radial vibration, axial position, differential expansion, and eccentricity. Its modular architecture — comprising probes, extension cables, and proximitors — has made it the de facto standard for API 670-compliant machinery protection systems on steam turbines, gas compressors, centrifugal pumps, and large electric motors. The system operates on a 5-meter or 9-meter probe-to-proximitor cable configuration, with output signals typically ranging from −1 VDC to −24 VDC, directly compatible with Bently Nevada 3500 Series rack-based monitoring systems and third-party DCS/PLC inputs.
The 3300 Series was introduced by Bently Nevada Corporation (acquired by GE in 2002, subsequently integrated into Baker Hughes in 2017) as a successor to earlier 7000 Series transducer technology. The original 3300 architecture standardized the three-component transducer system: probe tip, armored extension cable, and proximitor (signal conditioning module). Early variants used 5 mm and 8 mm probe tip diameters, targeting different shaft material conductivities and gap ranges.
Through successive generations, the series expanded to include XL (Extended Linear) variants with a wider linear measurement range (up to 2.54 mm / 100 mil), high-temperature probe options rated to 177°C continuous, and intrinsically safe (IS) versions certified for Zone 0/1 hazardous areas under ATEX and IECEx standards. The 3300 NSv (Non-Standard Voltage) variant addressed installations requiring compatibility with legacy −18 VDC supply rails. By the mid-2000s, the 3300 XL 8mm probe had become the dominant configuration for new API 670 installations globally.
As of 2026, the 3300 Series is in its mature/end-of-active-production phase. Bently Nevada's current primary offering is the 3300 XL series alongside the newer Velomitor and Proximitor Xace platforms. However, the installed base of legacy 3300 components across long-lifecycle industrial assets (nuclear, refinery, power generation) remains enormous, sustaining strong demand for OEM-equivalent spare parts, calibrated replacements, and long-term maintenance inventory.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked configurations within the Bently Nevada 3300 Series. Each entry reflects a distinct probe geometry, cable length, or proximitor specification.
