Technical Dossier
The GE IS220P series is a core component family within the Mark VIe Distributed Control System (DCS), GE's flagship turbine and plant control platform deployed across heavy industrial sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, combined-cycle gas turbine (CCGT) plants, and offshore oil and gas facilities. The Mark VIe platform, of which the IS220P series forms a critical I/O and protection layer, is installed on tens of thousands of gas turbines, steam turbines, and generators worldwide. The IS220PPROH1A specifically functions as a protection I/O module, interfacing with the PPRO protection processor to execute overspeed, flame detection, and emergency shutdown logic in real time. Its role in safety-critical loops makes it one of the most frequently maintained and replaced modules in the Mark VIe ecosystem.
The IS220P series was introduced as part of GE's transition from the Mark VI (IS200 series) to the Mark VIe architecture in the early 2000s. The Mark VI platform used VME-bus backplane communication and required separate I/O terminal boards; the Mark VIe redesign consolidated I/O processing onto dedicated IS220P-series boards with integrated IONET Ethernet communication, eliminating single-point backplane failures. Early IS220P revisions (H1A, H1B) established the physical form factor — a 3U eurocard with a 96-pin DIN41612 connector — that has remained consistent across the product lifecycle, ensuring backward compatibility within the same I/O pack assembly. By the mid-2010s, GE transitioned newer installations toward the Mark VIeS (Safety) variant, which introduced IEC 61508 SIL 2 certification for select modules. The IS220P series entered a mature/sustaining lifecycle phase circa 2018; GE no longer actively markets these modules for new installations but continues to supply them as spare parts through its Parts & Repairs division. For operators running Mark VIe systems with 10–20-year maintenance horizons, sourcing IS220P modules from qualified third-party distributors is the standard long-term maintenance strategy.
The following SKUs represent the verified IS220P series module range, classified by functional category. Each module is a discrete field-replaceable unit (FRU) within the Mark VIe I/O pack assembly.
