Technical Dossier
The Honeywell HC900 Hybrid Controller is a process automation platform deployed across global heavy industry, including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and large-scale chemical processing facilities. Its modular rack-based architecture allows engineers to configure systems ranging from standalone loop controllers to distributed multi-rack process networks. The 900A16-0106 — a High Level Analog Input Module — is one of the most widely specified I/O modules in the HC900 catalog, providing 16 channels of high-level analog signal acquisition (0–5 V, 0–10 V, 1–5 V, ±10 V ranges) with 16-bit resolution and per-channel configurable filtering.
The HC900 platform maintains an installed base across thousands of sites globally, particularly in facilities that standardized on Honeywell DCS infrastructure during the 1990s and 2000s. Its continued relevance is driven by long equipment lifecycles in regulated industries, where control system replacement carries significant validation and capital cost.
The HC900 platform was introduced by Honeywell as a hybrid controller bridging the gap between standalone PID controllers and full DCS installations. Early revisions (C30, C50, C70 controllers) used a proprietary rack backplane with a 900 Series I/O bus operating at low baud rates suitable for the process scan rates of the era. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced the C75 controller with enhanced memory, faster scan cycles, and Ethernet supervisory connectivity via the HC900 Designer software suite.
The I/O module family — including the 900A16-0106 — was designed for backward compatibility across controller generations, allowing field I/O to remain in service during controller upgrades. This architectural decision extended the operational life of individual modules well beyond the controller lifecycle. However, as Honeywell transitioned its process automation portfolio toward the Experion PKS and Safety Manager platforms, HC900 hardware entered a managed availability phase. Replacement modules for the HC900 series are no longer manufactured in volume, making secondary market sourcing the primary procurement channel for maintenance operations.
Key compatibility notes: 900 Series I/O modules are rack-slot agnostic within a given rack chassis (900R08, 900R16). Firmware compatibility between the C30/C50/C70 and C75 controllers must be verified against the module revision level stamped on the module label.

Controller & Communication Modules
The HC900 series has entered a mature lifecycle phase. Honeywell has formally transitioned new project specifications to the Experion PKS C300 controller platform. As a result, HC900 modules including the 900A16-0106 are no longer available through standard distribution channels and must be sourced from the secondary market or specialist industrial spare parts suppliers.
We cross-reference Honeywell part numbers against revision levels and firmware compatibility matrices to ensure the supplied module is compatible with the target controller version. Requests for complete rack assemblies, controller units, and I/O module sets are handled through our project sourcing desk.
HC900 modules present specific test challenges due to their backplane bus communication architecture and analog signal chain complexity. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all HC900 modules prior to dispatch:
All test results are documented and supplied with the module shipment as a quality record.
