Technical Dossier
The ICS Triplex TC-305 series is a field-proven component family deployed across safety-critical and process-critical industrial environments, including petrochemical refineries, offshore oil and gas platforms, nuclear power generation facilities, and large-scale chemical processing plants. Manufactured by ICS Triplex (now part of Rockwell Automation), the TC-305 range was engineered to support the Trusted® TMR (Triple Modular Redundant) safety system architecture — one of the most widely installed high-integrity control platforms in global heavy industry. Installations of TC-305 series hardware remain active across hundreds of sites operating under IEC 61508 SIL 3 and IEC 61511 requirements. The long operational lifespan of Trusted® systems means TC-305 components continue to be in active demand for lifecycle extension, scheduled maintenance, and emergency replacement programs.
The TC-305 series belongs to the ICS Triplex Trusted® platform, which entered industrial service in the late 1980s and was progressively refined through the 1990s and 2000s. The Trusted® architecture is defined by its hardware-based TMR voting logic: three independent processing channels execute identical control tasks simultaneously, with a 2-out-of-3 voting mechanism providing fault tolerance without process shutdown on single-channel failure. The TC-305 component family supports the physical interconnection and signal extension infrastructure of this architecture.
Early TC-305 variants were designed for the original Trusted® T3000 chassis environment, with backplane communication based on proprietary parallel bus structures. As the platform evolved into the Trusted® T3200 and later T3300 generations, the TC-305 series was updated to support extended cable lengths, improved EMI shielding, and compatibility with updated I/O chassis configurations. Compatibility between TC-305 variants and specific chassis generations must be verified against the ICS Triplex hardware compatibility matrix, as connector pinouts and signal voltage levels differ between generations. End-of-life notices for several TC-305 sub-variants were issued between 2010 and 2018, making third-party lifecycle support a primary sourcing channel for maintenance teams.
The following SKUs represent the documented TC-305 series range. Each entry reflects a distinct hardware function within the Trusted® TMR system architecture.
TC-305-01: Long range extension cable for Trusted® I/O chassis interconnection, extended reach configuration.
TC-305-02: Short range extension cable, standard chassis-to-chassis link for co-located rack installations.
TC-305-03: Medium range extension cable with enhanced shielding for high-EMI industrial environments.
TC-305-04: Termination assembly for TC-305 cable series, provides signal termination at remote chassis end.
TC-305-05: Cable assembly with locking connector, vibration-resistant variant for offshore and mobile platform use.
TC-305-06: Dual-redundant extension cable set, supports parallel routing for fault-tolerant cabling configurations.
TC-305-07: Extension cable with integrated surge protection, for installations with elevated transient risk.
TC-305-08: Right-angle connector cable assembly, for space-constrained rack installations.
TC-305-09: Replacement cable assembly for T3000 legacy chassis, backward-compatible pinout.
TC-305-10: Extension cable for T3200 series chassis, updated connector standard.
TC-305-11: High-flex cable variant for installations requiring repeated cable movement or routing through cable chains.
TC-305-12: Armored extension cable for direct burial or conduit-free industrial floor routing.
TC-305-13: Low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) cable assembly for enclosed or offshore module installations.
TC-305-14: Extended temperature range cable assembly, rated for operation in high-ambient-temperature process areas.
TC-305-15: Spare connector kit for TC-305 series field repair and re-termination.
TC-305-16: Cable assembly with diagnostic loop-back connector for pre-installation continuity testing.
TC-305-17: Bulk cable reel, unassembled, for custom-length field fabrication by certified Trusted® engineers.
Multiple TC-305 sub-variants have been formally discontinued by ICS Triplex and Rockwell Automation. OEM lead times for remaining stock are extended or indefinite, and direct factory support for legacy Trusted® hardware has been progressively reduced. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for TC-305 series components, sourced through authorized surplus channels, decommissioned plant buybacks, and verified third-party supply networks.
For end-users operating Trusted® TMR systems beyond the original design lifecycle, DriveKNMS provides: confirmed-stock availability checks within 24 hours, full traceability documentation on request, and export-compliant shipping to all major industrial regions including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Customers requiring long-term supply agreements for scheduled maintenance programs are accommodated with reserved stock arrangements.
TC-305 series cables and connector assemblies are subject to a defined inspection and test protocol prior to dispatch. Each unit undergoes visual inspection for connector body integrity, pin condition, and cable jacket damage. Electrical continuity is verified across all signal conductors using calibrated test equipment, with results logged against the unit serial number. Shielding continuity and isolation resistance between shield and signal conductors are measured and recorded. For units destined for SIL-rated applications, test records are retained and provided with shipment documentation. Connector mating cycles are assessed where applicable, and units showing evidence of excessive wear are quarantined and not offered for resale. All test procedures are aligned with IEC 61784 and ICS Triplex hardware maintenance guidelines.
