Technical Dossier
The Lenze E94 series — commercially designated as the Lenze 9400 series — represents one of the most widely deployed modular drive and automation platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, and continuous-process chemical plants, the E94 architecture is engineered for deterministic motion control in environments where unplanned downtime carries direct operational and safety consequences. Its modular backplane design allows system integrators to configure axis controllers, communication adapters, safety modules, and I/O expansions within a single unified rail-mounted assembly, reducing cabinet footprint and simplifying inter-module wiring. The platform supports CANopen, PROFIBUS DP, EtherCAT, PROFINET, and DeviceNet communication stacks, making it compatible with the majority of DCS and SCADA architectures deployed in facilities constructed between 1998 and the present day.
The E94 platform was introduced by Lenze in the early 2000s as the successor to the 9300 servo inverter range, consolidating servo and vector control into a single hardware family. The initial release covered the E94ASxE axis controller range with integrated safety via the E94AYAE parameter and keypad module. Subsequent hardware revisions introduced the E94AYCET EtherCAT communication module and the E94AYCPN PROFINET adapter, extending the platform's compatibility with Ethernet-based industrial networks that became dominant after 2008. The E94AYCCO CANopen module and E94AYCPB PROFIBUS DP adapter addressed legacy installations in automotive and food processing sectors. From approximately 2015 onward, Lenze began transitioning new machine designs toward the i700 and i550 inverter families; however, the E94 series remains in active production support and spare parts availability, with a large installed base requiring long-term maintenance supply chains. Facilities that standardized on E94 hardware in the 2005–2015 window face increasing difficulty sourcing low-volume replacement modules through standard distribution channels, making specialist inventory partners a critical component of their maintenance strategy.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked modules within the Lenze E94 series, organized by functional category:
Parameter & Keypad Modules
Communication Adapter Modules
I/O Extension Modules
Axis Controllers (Core Drive Modules)
Power Supply & Supply Modules
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for Lenze E94 series modules, with particular focus on communication adapters and parameter modules that have been discontinued from standard Lenze distribution. As the E94 platform enters its extended lifecycle phase, procurement teams at chemical plants, power utilities, and automotive OEMs increasingly encounter lead times of 16–52 weeks through standard channels for low-volume module replacements. DriveKNMS sources E94 modules through verified secondary market channels, applies full functional testing prior to shipment, and provides documentation of test results on request. For facilities operating under planned maintenance schedules, DriveKNMS offers consignment stock arrangements and multi-year supply agreements to eliminate single-event procurement risk. Modules covered under this program include the full E94AYAE parameter module family, all E94AYC communication adapters, and selected E94ASHE axis controller variants. Inquiries for bill-of-materials (BOM) matching and cross-reference to current Lenze i700 equivalents are handled by the technical sales team.
The E94 series employs a proprietary backplane bus architecture for inter-module communication between axis controllers, supply modules, and function modules. Verification of used or refurbished E94 modules requires test procedures that go beyond basic power-on checks. DriveKNMS applies the following protocol to all E94 modules processed through its facility: (1) Visual inspection of backplane connector pins and PCB for corrosion, mechanical damage, and capacitor condition; (2) Firmware version identification and comparison against Lenze's published compatibility matrix for the target axis controller revision; (3) Functional bus communication test using a reference E94 axis controller to verify module enumeration and cyclic data exchange; (4) For communication modules (E94AYCPB, E94AYCPN, E94AYCET), protocol-layer testing using a hardware master to confirm correct telegram handling and error response behavior; (5) Parameter module (E94AYAE) testing includes keypad display verification, memory card read/write cycle test, and parameter upload/download validation. All modules are shipped with a test report and a 12-month functional warranty.
