Technical Dossier
The Mitsubishi Electric FX0N series is a compact, fixed-I/O programmable logic controller platform that has maintained a significant installed base across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical plants, water treatment facilities, automotive assembly lines, and discrete manufacturing cells. Introduced as a successor to the FX0 platform, the FX0N established itself as a cost-effective, DIN-rail-mountable controller capable of handling both relay and transistor output configurations. Its compact form factor and native support for expansion modules made it a standard selection for OEM machine builders throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. Despite its end-of-life status, the FX0N series remains operational in thousands of legacy installations worldwide, creating sustained demand for spare parts, replacement units, and lifecycle extension services.
The FX0N series was positioned between the entry-level FX0 and the mid-range FX2N within Mitsubishi Electric's MELSEC F-series hierarchy. It introduced a modular expansion bus that allowed attachment of up to 3 expansion units, extending the maximum I/O count to 128 points. The CPU architecture is based on a proprietary 16-bit instruction set compatible with GX Developer and the legacy FXGP/WIN programming environment. Communication options were limited to RS-422 (programming port) and optional RS-232C/RS-485 adapters via the FX0N-232ADP and FX0N-485ADP modules.
As the MELSEC F-series evolved into the FX1N, FX2N, FX3G, and ultimately the FX5U platform, the FX0N was formally discontinued. However, its ladder logic instruction set remains largely compatible with FX1N and FX3G CPUs, making cross-generation migration feasible with minor program modifications. For installations where a direct replacement is not viable, DriveKNMS provides refurbished FX0N units with full functional verification.

The FX0N series was officially discontinued by Mitsubishi Electric, and authorized distribution channels no longer carry new stock. DriveKNMS specializes in sourcing, testing, and supplying refurbished and new-surplus FX0N modules for industrial customers who require lifecycle extension without full system migration. Our inventory is sourced from decommissioned equipment, factory overstock, and verified secondary market channels. All units are inspected against original Mitsubishi Electric datasheets before dispatch. For customers managing multi-year maintenance contracts on FX0N-based machinery, DriveKNMS offers reserved stock agreements to guarantee parts availability over defined service windows.
Each FX0N module processed by DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification protocol. CPU units are powered up and subjected to full I/O point cycling, program read/write verification via GX Developer, and communication port integrity testing. Output modules including the FX0N-8EYR are tested under resistive load conditions at rated current per output point, with relay contact resistance measured and logged. Expansion bus connector pins are inspected for oxidation and mechanical deformation. Units exhibiting marginal relay contact wear or degraded output driver performance are classified as non-serviceable and excluded from inventory. Test records are retained and available upon request for quality-critical procurement processes.
