Technical Dossier
Schneider Electric's power board modules in this range serve as the backbone of backplane power distribution within Quantum, Premium, and Modicon-series rack assemblies. Their role is not peripheral: a failed power board results in complete rack shutdown, making lifecycle management and spare parts stocking a critical operational priority for plant engineers and maintenance teams.
Schneider Electric's power board architecture has evolved across three distinct generations tied to the Modicon hardware platform roadmap:
Generation 1 (1990s – early 2000s): Early Quantum and Premium rack power boards used discrete linear regulation circuits. Models such as PN072548P1 and early PN07xx variants provided basic 5 VDC and 24 VDC backplane rails with limited fault diagnostics. These boards were designed for the 140-series Quantum racks and are now fully obsolete with no OEM support.
Generation 2 (2000s – 2015): Switching power supply designs replaced linear regulators, improving efficiency and thermal performance. The PN072548P2 belongs to this generation, featuring improved EMI filtering, wider input voltage tolerance, and enhanced short-circuit protection. Compatibility spans Quantum 140-series racks and select Premium TSX racks. This generation remains in active use across installed base sites but has entered the end-of-active-production phase.
Generation 3 / Modern Alternatives (2015–present): Schneider Electric's EcoStruxure Automation platform introduced the Modicon M580 and M340 series with integrated power management. Replacement power modules such as the BMXCPS2000 and BMXCPS3500 represent the current-generation equivalents for new installations. However, direct form-factor substitution is not possible without rack and backplane changes, making original PN07xxxx boards the only viable option for installed-base maintenance.
The following SKUs represent the verified Schneider Electric power board and associated rack power supply family. Each entry reflects a distinct functional variant within the PN07xxxx and related power module range:
PN072548P2: Backplane power distribution board, Quantum rack, 5 VDC/24 VDC rails

Power board modules present unique testing challenges compared to standard I/O or CPU modules. The PN072548P2 interfaces directly with the rack backplane bus and must deliver stable, low-ripple DC rails under variable load conditions. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all PN07xxxx units prior to shipment:
Visual Inspection: PCB examined under 10× magnification for capacitor bulge, solder joint cracking, trace corrosion, and connector pin deformation. Boards with any evidence of thermal stress or arc damage are rejected unconditionally.
Power-On Functional Test: Each board is installed in a compatible Quantum rack test fixture and powered through a calibrated AC source. Output rail voltages (5 VDC ±2%, 24 VDC ±3%) are measured under no-load, 50% load, and full-load conditions using a Fluke 289 True-RMS meter.
Ripple and Noise Measurement: Output ripple is measured with an oscilloscope at 20 MHz bandwidth. Acceptable threshold: <50 mV peak-to-peak on 5 VDC rail, <120 mV on 24 VDC rail.
Thermal Soak Test: Units are operated at full load for 4 hours at 45°C ambient to screen for latent component failures and thermal derating issues.
Backplane Communication Verification: Where applicable, board communication with the rack controller slot is verified via Modbus/Ethernet diagnostic polling to confirm no bus contention or address conflicts.
All units that pass the full protocol are issued a DriveKNMS test certificate with technician ID, test date, and measured values. Failed units are quarantined and not returned to inventory.
