Technical Dossier
The Edwards RV Series is a line of single-stage rotary vane vacuum pumps engineered for continuous-duty laboratory, analytical, and light industrial applications. Deployed across pharmaceutical manufacturing, semiconductor research, freeze-drying systems, electron microscopy, and chemical processing, the RV Series occupies a defined position in the sub-40 m³/h pumping speed segment. Units in this series are oil-sealed, air-cooled, and designed for bench-top or rack-mounted integration. The RV12 — identified by part number RV12 A655-01-905, with associated accessory codes 3M 0620-02187, 79027, and kit designation QT50RAF-UK — represents the mid-range displacement model within the RV family, delivering a nominal pumping speed of 12 m³/h and an ultimate vacuum of ≤1×10⁻³ mbar (with gas ballast closed).
The Edwards RV Series succeeded the earlier E-Series and ED-Series two-stage rotary vane pumps in the light-duty segment. Early production RV units (pre-2000) used a cast-iron stator body with a separate oil reservoir and manual gas ballast valve. Mid-generation units introduced an integrated oil mist filter port, revised vane geometry for extended service intervals, and a standardized IEC motor frame for simplified motor replacement across global voltages. Current-generation RV pumps incorporate a revised shaft seal design (reducing oil migration into the inlet), an updated gas ballast assembly compatible with corrosive-duty variants, and a unified accessory interface for inlet traps and exhaust filters.
Compatibility note: RV3, RV5, RV8, and RV12 share a common oil type (Edwards Ultragrade 19 or 20) but do not share vane sets, shaft seals, or end plates across model sizes. The RV15 and RV21 use a physically larger stator and are not interchangeable with sub-12 m³/h models. Spare parts kits are model-specific; cross-substitution is not supported by Edwards.

Maintenance Kits & Accessory Part Numbers
The Edwards RV Series entered its mature lifecycle phase. While current-generation units remain in production, a significant installed base of earlier-revision RV pumps — identifiable by their older A6xx-01-9xx part number suffixes and cast-iron body construction — requires maintenance kits, vane sets, and shaft seals that Edwards no longer stocks through standard distribution channels.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of legacy RV Series components sourced through authorized surplus channels, OEM overstock, and tested pull-out units. For operators running RV12 or RV8 pumps in long-term laboratory or analytical instrument installations, DriveKNMS provides:
Rotary vane vacuum pumps require functional validation beyond visual inspection. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all RV Series units processed through its facility:
