Technical Dossier
The Fluke 1630 Series earth ground clamps are purpose-built instruments for measuring ground loop resistance and leakage current without disconnecting the ground electrode under test. Deployed extensively across heavy industrial sectors — including petrochemical plants, nuclear facilities, oil refineries, power generation stations, and large-scale manufacturing — the 1630 Series has established itself as a reference-grade tool for electrical safety verification and grounding system integrity assessment. Its clamp-based, non-intrusive measurement methodology makes it indispensable in live environments where disconnection of ground conductors is operationally prohibited.
The Fluke 1630 Series represents the maturation of clamp-on ground resistance testing technology. Early ground resistance measurement required the three-point fall-of-potential method, which demanded full disconnection of the ground electrode — a significant operational hazard in live industrial environments. The 1630 Series addressed this by implementing a dual-transformer clamp architecture: one transformer injects a known test signal into the ground loop, while the second measures the resulting current, allowing the instrument to calculate loop resistance via Ohm's Law without any disconnection.
The original Fluke 1630 established the platform with a 0.025 Ω to 1500 Ω measurement range and a 200 A AC current measurement capability. Subsequent variants — including the 1630-2 and 1630-2FC — refined the jaw geometry, improved EMI rejection, and introduced FC (Fluke Connect) wireless data logging capability, enabling integration with the Fluke Connect ecosystem for remote monitoring and report generation. The series is now in a mature/sustained lifecycle phase; Fluke continues to provide calibration services, replacement jaws, and accessories, making long-term maintenance support fully viable.
The following SKUs represent the verified, commercially available and historically documented models within the Fluke 1630 Series and its directly associated accessories. Each entry reflects a distinct functional configuration:
1630-2FC: Clamp-on ground resistance tester with Fluke Connect wireless data logging, 0.025–1500 Ω range.
1630-2: Standard clamp-on ground resistance tester, 0.025–1500 Ω, no wireless module, manual data recording.
1630: Original-generation earth ground clamp, 0.025–1500 Ω, 200 A AC leakage current measurement.
1630-2 FC KIT: Bundle including 1630-2FC meter, carrying case, calibration certificate, and test accessories.
1630 CASE: Hard-shell carrying and storage case designed specifically for 1630 Series jaw geometry.

1630 HOLSTER: Protective rubber holster for field use, compatible with 1630 and 1630-2 bodies.
1630-2 MANUAL-EN: Official English-language technical reference manual for 1630-2 and 1630-2FC.
FLUKE-1630 PROBE SET: Auxiliary test lead set for supplementary voltage/current verification tasks.
1630-2FC STRAP KIT: Complete jaw strap replacement kit for 1630-2FC, includes hardware and instructions.
1630 CALIBRATION CERT: ISO-traceable calibration certificate issued at time of manufacture or recalibration.
1630-2 SOFT CASE: Soft carrying pouch for 1630-2 series, suitable for field technician belt carry.
The Fluke 1630 Series, while still in active production for its primary models, has accumulated a significant installed base of first-generation 1630 units that are no longer covered under standard Fluke distribution channels. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of both current-production and legacy 1630 Series instruments, replacement jaw assemblies, calibration accessories, and associated test kits.
Each 1630 Series unit processed through DriveKNMS undergoes a structured verification protocol specific to clamp-on ground resistance instruments:
Jaw Continuity & Alignment Check: Physical inspection of jaw closure, contact surface condition, and hinge integrity — critical for accurate inductive coupling in the dual-transformer measurement circuit.
Resistance Accuracy Verification: Measurement against a calibrated decade resistance box across the full 0.025–1500 Ω range at minimum three reference points (low, mid, high).
AC Current Measurement Validation: Verification of the 200 A AC leakage current measurement function using a calibrated current source.
Fluke Connect Module Test (1630-2FC only): Wireless pairing verification, data transmission integrity check, and battery charge cycle confirmation.
Display & UI Functional Test: All display segments, mode switching, and hold/memory functions verified against factory specification.
Calibration Traceability: Final calibration certificate issued with NIST-traceable reference standards documentation.
