Technical Dossier
The GE Series 90-70 (IC697) is a rack-based programmable logic controller platform developed by GE Fanuc Automation (now GE Automation & Controls). It has been deployed across heavy industrial sectors including petrochemical refining, nuclear power generation, offshore oil & gas platforms, pulp and paper mills, and large-scale water treatment facilities. Its VMEbus-based backplane architecture, deterministic scan cycle, and broad I/O module library made it a dominant DCS/PLC hybrid platform from the late 1980s through the 2000s. Installed base remains substantial globally, making spare parts availability a critical operational concern for plant engineers and maintenance teams.
The Series 90-70 platform was introduced in 1988 as GE Fanuc's high-end PLC offering, designed to compete with Siemens S5-115U and Allen-Bradley PLC-5 in large process control applications. The architecture is built on a VMEbus (Versa Module Eurocard) backplane, supporting up to 9 slots per rack and multiple rack expansion via the IC697BEM711/713 bus expansion modules.
Early revisions (Firmware Rev. 1.x–5.x) supported basic ladder logic and limited structured text. Mid-generation revisions introduced IEC 61131-3 compliance, Ethernet connectivity via the IC697CMM742, and redundant CPU configurations using the IC697CGR935. Late-generation firmware (Rev. 9.x+) added enhanced diagnostics and compatibility with Profibus-DP via the IC697BEM731.

Q: How are RFQ terms confirmed?
A: Quantity, required condition, documentation needs, destination and sourcing route are confirmed during RFQ review before quotation.
Q: Can you support multi-unit or repeat RFQ requests?
A: Yes. Send the model list, target quantity and destination so DRIVEKNMS can review sourcing options and quote the requirement as a project RFQ.
IC697 modules present specific test challenges due to their VMEbus backplane interface, multi-layer PCB construction, and mixed-voltage internal power rails. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all IC697 units prior to dispatch:

Move from this exact model into the matching system hub, brand archive, model-family archive or lifecycle sourcing route before sending a final RFQ list.
