Technical Dossier
The GE Series 90-30, identified by the IC693 prefix, is a modular programmable logic controller platform developed by GE Automation & Controls (now part of Emerson / Proficy portfolio). It has been deployed extensively across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, pulp and paper mills, water treatment facilities, and continuous manufacturing lines. Its rack-based architecture supports mixed I/O configurations, making it a standard reference platform for distributed control system (DCS) integration projects requiring deterministic scan-cycle performance.
The IC693MDL752 is a discrete output module within this family, providing 32 points of 12/24 VDC positive logic output at 0.5A per point. It occupies a single slot in any IC693 5-slot, 10-slot, or expansion rack and communicates over the Series 90-30 backplane bus.
The Series 90-30 platform was introduced in the late 1980s as a mid-range PLC targeting applications that required more I/O density than micro-PLCs but did not justify the cost of a full Series 90-70 mainframe. The original CPU modules (IC693CPU311, IC693CPU313) operated at 0.6–1.0 ms/K scan rates with limited memory. Successive CPU generations (IC693CPU321, IC693CPU331, IC693CPU341, IC693CPU360, IC693CPU364, IC693CPU374) progressively expanded program memory from 6 KB to 240 KB, added Ethernet ports, and introduced support for Profibus-DP and DeviceNet via plug-in communications modules.
The I/O subsystem evolved in parallel: early discrete modules supported 8 or 16 points; later generations introduced 32-point density modules (including the IC693MDL752) to reduce rack slot consumption. Analog modules transitioned from 12-bit to 16-bit resolution. The backplane bus protocol remained backward-compatible throughout, allowing IC693 racks from different production eras to coexist in the same system — a critical factor for long-lifecycle plant installations where full system replacement is not economically viable.
As of 2024, GE/Emerson has formally classified the majority of IC693 hardware as end-of-life (EOL) or last-time-buy. Installed base support now depends on third-party MRO suppliers and certified repair facilities.

With GE/Emerson having issued EOL notices across the IC693 product line, procurement of replacement modules through OEM channels is no longer reliable. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of IC693 spare parts sourced from decommissioned plant equipment, authorized surplus channels, and long-term storage stock. All units are cataloged by part number, firmware revision where applicable, and physical condition grade.
For critical infrastructure operators — refineries, power generation facilities, water utilities — DriveKNMS provides lifecycle extension support including: same-day quotation on in-stock IC693 modules, cross-reference identification for discontinued part numbers, and coordination of repair/exchange programs for modules with repairable faults (blown output drivers, failed backplane connectors, corrupted firmware). Customers operating mixed-generation IC693 racks can request compatibility verification before purchase.
IC693 modules present specific test challenges due to their backplane-dependent communication architecture. DriveKNMS applies the following verification procedures to all IC693 inventory:
