Technical Dossier
The GE Fanuc Series 90-30 (IC694 platform) is one of the most widely deployed programmable logic controller families in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power generation facilities, offshore oil platforms, pulp and paper mills, and automotive assembly lines, the IC694 rack-based architecture established a benchmark for modular PLC design throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Its distributed I/O capability, deterministic scan cycle, and broad third-party integration support made it the default control platform for plant-wide SCADA and DCS hybrid architectures. The IC694MDL240 specifically is a 32-point, 24VDC discrete input module used in high-density digital signal acquisition applications.
The Series 90-30 platform launched under GE Fanuc Automation in the early 1990s as a successor to the Series Six and Series Five PLC families. The IC693 (3-slot to 10-slot rack) and IC694 (5-slot to 10-slot rack, enhanced backplane) variants share a common instruction set but differ in backplane bus width and power handling. The IC694 backplane supports higher-current I/O modules and expanded communications options including Ethernet (IC694CMM321), Genius Bus (IC694BEM331), and Profibus-DP (IC694PBM300).
GE Fanuc was rebranded as GE Intelligent Platforms in 2011, and subsequently acquired by Emerson in 2018, continuing under the Emerson Automation Solutions portfolio. The Series 90-30 line entered end-of-life notification in 2019, with last-time-buy windows closing for most catalog numbers by 2022. Field replacement and lifecycle extension are now the primary procurement drivers for this platform.
Compatibility note: IC693 and IC694 modules are not cross-compatible at the backplane level. IC694 modules require IC694 racks (IC694CHS392, IC694CHS397, etc.) and IC694 power supplies (IC694PWR321, IC694PWR330, IC694PWR331).

Communications & Specialty Modules
With the Series 90-30 platform in end-of-life status, OEM factory stock for most IC694 catalog numbers is exhausted or available only through authorized legacy channels at significant lead-time premiums. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested IC694 modules sourced from decommissioned plant equipment, controlled warehouse environments, and verified distributor surplus.
For the IC694MDL240 specifically, DriveKNMS stocks both new-surplus and refurbished units. All refurbished units undergo full functional restoration including backplane connector inspection, optical isolator verification, and 24VDC input threshold calibration. Customers operating plants with 10+ year maintenance horizons can request long-term supply agreements to secure multi-year inventory allocation.
DriveKNMS also supports cross-reference sourcing: if your exact IC694 part number is unavailable, our engineering team will identify functionally equivalent alternatives within the IC694 catalog or recommend validated migration paths to the GE PACSystems RX3i (IC695 series) platform.
IC694 modules present specific test challenges due to their parallel backplane bus architecture and optically isolated I/O circuits. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all IC694 discrete input modules including the IC694MDL240:
All modules are shipped with a test report and 12-month warranty against functional failure under normal operating conditions.
