Technical Dossier
The ICS Triplex T3000 Series represents one of the most widely deployed fault-tolerant distributed control system (DCS) platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical complexes, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, and refinery process units, the T3000 architecture is engineered to IEC 61508 SIL 2/3 requirements. Its triple modular redundancy (TMR) design ensures continuous process availability even under single-point hardware failure conditions. The T3480 Guarded Analog Output module is a core output node within this architecture, providing isolated 4–20 mA analog drive signals to final control elements including control valves, variable speed drives, and positioners.
The ICS Triplex T3000 platform was introduced in the early 1990s as a successor to the earlier Triplex T2000 safety system, which relied on simplex and dual-redundant configurations. The T3000 introduced full TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) at the I/O level, a significant architectural advancement that allowed individual module replacement without process shutdown — a requirement that became standard in continuous-process industries.
Through the late 1990s and 2000s, the series expanded its I/O density and communication capabilities, adding HART pass-through support on analog modules and integrating Modbus and OPC-DA gateway options. The T3000 backplane bus uses a proprietary high-speed serial protocol that is not compatible with the later Trusted TMR platform (also by ICS Triplex / Honeywell), which succeeded the T3000 in new installations from approximately 2005 onward.
As of 2026, the T3000 Series is in the mature/end-of-life phase. ICS Triplex (now part of Honeywell Process Solutions) no longer manufactures new T3000 hardware. Installed base support is maintained through authorized third-party MRO suppliers. Long-term maintenance contracts and lifecycle extension programs are the primary support pathway for existing T3000 installations.

Power Supply & Communication
The ICS Triplex T3000 Series reached end-of-manufacture status, and OEM spare parts are no longer available through standard Honeywell distribution channels. For facilities operating T3000-based safety instrumented systems (SIS) or basic process control systems (BPCS), unplanned module failures present a significant operational risk if replacement stock is not pre-positioned.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of T3000 Series modules including the T3480, sourced from decommissioned plant assets, controlled warehouse stock, and verified MRO channels. All units are catalogued by revision level and firmware version where applicable. DriveKNMS provides:
T3000 Series modules, particularly analog I/O types such as the T3480, incorporate complex backplane edge connectors and TMR voting circuitry that require specialized test procedures beyond standard power-on verification.
DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all T3000 modules prior to dispatch:
