Technical Dossier
The Jetter JL3 series represents a compact, high-performance servo motor line engineered for precision motion control in demanding industrial environments. Deployed extensively across chemical processing plants, packaging machinery, semiconductor fabrication, and automated assembly lines, the JL3 platform has established a significant installed base in European and Asian heavy industry. Its brushless AC servo architecture, combined with integrated encoder feedback and a standardized mechanical flange interface, made it a preferred choice for OEMs requiring deterministic torque response and compact form factor. The series operates within Jetter's broader JetMotion and JetWeb automation ecosystems, interfacing directly with Jetter PLC controllers and motion controllers via CANopen and proprietary JetBus protocols. Facilities running continuous-process operations — including refineries, water treatment plants, and precision machining centers — rely on JL3 units for axis positioning, conveyor tensioning, and valve actuation.
The JL3 series was introduced as part of Jetter AG's second-generation servo platform, succeeding earlier brushed DC motor solutions and aligning with the industry transition to fieldbus-integrated motion control during the late 1990s and early 2000s. Early JL3 variants featured resolver-based feedback systems and analog command interfaces, compatible with Jetter's JC-647 and JC-648 servo amplifier families. Subsequent revisions introduced incremental encoder options (2500 ppr standard), expanding compatibility with third-party drives operating under ±10V analog or step/direction input modes.
Mid-generation JL3 units incorporated improved winding insulation classes (Class F, later Class H) to support higher ambient temperature operation in foundry and press environments. The mechanical interface standardized on IEC 72-1 flange dimensions, enabling direct substitution within existing machine frames without structural modification. Later production runs added optional holding brake variants (suffix -B) and IP65-rated shaft seal options for wash-down environments.
As the JL3 series has entered its mature/end-of-life phase, Jetter has transitioned its current motion portfolio toward the JL6 and JL8 series with EnDat 2.2 absolute encoder interfaces and EtherCAT connectivity. JL3 units are no longer in active production; however, the installed base remains substantial, and long-term maintenance support — including refurbished units, tested spare stock, and cross-reference to compatible replacement motors — remains a critical requirement for facilities with 10–20 year equipment lifecycles.

The JL3 series has been formally discontinued by Jetter AG, with OEM production ceased and factory repair services no longer available through standard distribution channels. For facilities operating Jetter-based motion systems with remaining service life of 5–15 years, sourcing replacement JL3 units requires access to specialist industrial spare parts inventories.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated stock program for end-of-life Jetter servo components. Our inventory sourcing process covers: pull-from-service units with documented operating hours, new-old-stock (NOS) units from original OEM packaging, and functionally equivalent cross-reference units where direct substitution is validated. For the JL3-0250-25-3RVP specifically, we maintain cross-reference data against compatible servo motors from Lenze, Parker, and Bosch Rexroth with matching flange dimensions and torque curves. All sourced units are logged with serial number, production date code, and condition grade prior to dispatch.
JL3 series motors present specific test requirements due to their resolver-based feedback architecture and multi-pole winding configuration. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all JL3 units processed through our facility:
Winding resistance balance test: Three-phase resistance measured across all winding pairs; imbalance exceeding 2% flags for rejection. Insulation resistance test: 500VDC megohm test between windings and frame; minimum acceptance threshold 100 MΩ. Resolver excitation and output verification: Resolver driven at rated excitation frequency (typically 10 kHz); sin/cos output amplitude and phase verified against OEM specification. No-load run test: Motor driven at rated speed via compatible servo amplifier; current draw, vibration signature, and thermal rise monitored over 15-minute cycle. Encoder signal integrity check (EVP variants): A/B/Z channel output verified at 2500 ppr; differential signal levels and edge timing confirmed. Brake engagement test (B variants): 24VDC brake coil energized and de-energized; holding torque verified against nameplate rating. Dimensional inspection: Shaft runout, flange face flatness, and keyway dimensions checked against IEC 72-1 tolerances.
Each unit ships with a test record documenting all measured values and pass/fail status.
