The Schneider Electric ATV61 series is a line of variable speed drives (VSDs) engineered for demanding pump and fan applications in heavy industry. Deployed across chemical processing plants, nuclear power stations, oil refineries, water treatment facilities, and offshore platforms, the ATV61 occupies a critical position in global industrial automation infrastructure. Its three-phase AC drive architecture supports motor power ratings from 0.75 kW to 800 kW, making it one of the most scalable drive families in the Schneider Electric Altivar portfolio. The ATV61 is designed for continuous-duty environments where process reliability, harmonic compliance, and communication interoperability are non-negotiable requirements.
The ATV61 series succeeded the ATV58 and ATV68 platforms, consolidating pump/fan-optimized drive functionality into a unified hardware architecture. Early ATV61 units (circa 2004–2008) shipped with integrated Modbus RTU and CANopen communication as standard, with optional fieldbus cards for Profibus DP, DeviceNet, and Ethernet/IP. The drive's control board architecture uses a dedicated DSP for motor flux vector control, enabling sensorless speed regulation without encoder feedback.
From 2009 onward, Schneider introduced enhanced EMC filter options and extended the power range to 800 kW for high-voltage cabinet configurations. The ATV61 platform also introduced the SoMove PC configuration tool, replacing legacy terminal-based commissioning. Compatibility with legacy ATV58 parameter sets was maintained through software migration utilities, reducing retrofit engineering time.
