Technical Dossier
The Schneider Electric Magelis XBTGT series represents one of the most widely deployed advanced touchscreen HMI product lines in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical complexes, nuclear power facilities, offshore platforms, and continuous-process refineries, the XBTGT range provides operator interface functionality for SCADA, DCS, and PLC-based control architectures. Its adoption in safety-critical environments is attributable to its deterministic communication stack, ruggedized enclosure ratings, and compatibility with Schneider's Modicon PLC ecosystem as well as third-party controllers via standard fieldbus protocols. The series spans display sizes from 5.7" to 15", supporting both standalone HMI operation and networked multi-panel configurations.
The XBTGT series succeeded the earlier XBT-F and XBT-N ranges, introducing a 32-bit ARM-based processing architecture and a resistive touchscreen interface capable of operating in high-vibration and high-humidity industrial environments. Early XBTGT units (circa 2004–2008) shipped with Vijeo Designer Lite, a Windows-based configuration environment that generated compact runtime packages deployable via CompactFlash or USB. Mid-generation units introduced Ethernet connectivity (10/100BASE-T) alongside legacy RS-232/RS-485 serial ports, enabling integration with both legacy Modbus RTU networks and modern Modbus TCP/IP architectures. Later revisions added CANopen and Uni-Telway support, broadening compatibility with Schneider's TSX Micro and Premium PLC families. The XBTGT series has entered its end-of-commercialization phase; Schneider Electric has designated the Magelis GTO and HMIGTO series as the primary migration path. However, the installed base remains extensive, and replacement units, spare panels, and refurbished modules continue to be in active demand for brownfield maintenance contracts.

DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory program for end-of-life and hard-to-source Schneider Electric XBTGT modules. As Schneider Electric has transitioned its HMI portfolio toward the HMIGTO and HMISTO series, procurement of XBTGT units through standard distribution channels has become increasingly constrained. DriveKNMS sources XBTGT panels through verified secondary market channels, decommissioned plant asset liquidations, and authorized refurbishment pipelines. Each unit is cross-referenced against Schneider's published part number database to confirm authenticity before entering stock. For customers operating brownfield facilities with long-term maintenance contracts, DriveKNMS offers consignment stocking agreements and multi-unit procurement packages to ensure continuity of supply for the duration of the plant's operational lifecycle. Obsolete firmware versions and Vijeo Designer project files compatible with legacy XBTGT runtimes are also available upon request to support panel replacement without full HMI reprogramming.
XBTGT panels present specific quality verification challenges due to their resistive touchscreen assemblies, backlight inverter circuits, and serial communication ASICs. DriveKNMS applies a structured test protocol to every XBTGT unit processed through its facility. Power-on verification confirms stable 24VDC input regulation and inrush current within specification. Touchscreen calibration is performed using a standardized grid-point test to verify linearity and dead-zone absence across the full active area. Serial port loopback tests validate RS-232 and RS-485 signal integrity at 9600, 19200, and 38400 baud rates. Ethernet-equipped variants undergo TCP/IP stack verification including Modbus TCP function code 03 and 16 read/write cycles. Backlight luminance is measured against factory reference values; units falling below 70% of rated brightness are flagged for backlight replacement prior to dispatch. All units are shipped with a functional test report and a 12-month warranty against hardware failure under normal operating conditions.
