Technical Dossier
The Siemens SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES 6SE70 series is one of the most widely deployed variable-speed drive platforms in global heavy industry. Installed across petrochemical refineries, nuclear power auxiliary systems, offshore platforms, cement plants, steel mills, and large-scale water treatment facilities, the 6SE70 platform covers power ranges from 0.55 kW to several megawatts in both vector control (VC) and motion control (MC) variants. Its modular architecture — separating the power section, control board, and option boards — made it the reference standard for distributed drive systems throughout the 1990s and 2000s. The platform remains operational in thousands of installed bases worldwide, driving demand for spare parts, repair services, and lifecycle extension support.
The SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES 6SE70 platform was introduced by Siemens in the early 1990s as a successor to the SIMOVERT P and SIMOVERT A families. The architecture is built around a modular backplane bus (the so-called CU/SCB/TSY/CBC board stack), allowing independent replacement of the control unit (CU), power section, and communication adapters without full drive replacement.
Early variants used the CU1 and CU2 control boards with PROFIBUS-DP via the CBP (Communication Board PROFIBUS). Later revisions introduced the CU3 board with enhanced diagnostic capability and expanded parameter sets. The T400 technology board enabled cam-based positioning and winder control directly within the drive. The SBP (Sensor Board Pulse) and SBM (Sensor Board Magnetic) extended encoder feedback options.
The following SKUs represent the core module range of the SIMOVERT MASTERDRIVES 6SE70 series, classified by functional category. All models listed are verified members of this platform family.
