Yaskawa DX200 Series Technical Notes

The Evolution of DX200 Architecture

Yaskawa's robot controller lineage progressed through distinct generations: the YASNAC MRC (1988), XRC (1998), NX100 (2003), DX100 (2007), and DX200 (2011). Each generation introduced expanded axis count, improved safety architecture, and updated fieldbus compatibility. The XRC platform used the JZNC-XIU01B I/O unit and JANCD-XCP01C CPU board — both of which remain in active service in legacy XRC installations and are cross-referenced in DX200 spare parts documentation for retrofit and migration projects. The DX200 introduced a 32-bit dual-processor architecture replacing the XRC's single-board design, added integrated functional safety (FSU) without external safety PLCs, and expanded network support to EtherNet/IP, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS-DP, and CC-Link. The OJANCD-YSF22B-E safety function board is specific to DX200 and handles the dual-channel safety monitoring required for collaborative and hazardous-area deployments. Backward compatibility with XRC-era I/O wiring harnesses was maintained through adapter modules, reducing retrofit costs in brownfield installations.

Quality Control for the DX200 Range

DX200 modules operate on a proprietary high-speed backplane bus running at 100Mbps between the CPU, I/O, and communication boards. Standard bench testing is insufficient to validate backplane bus integrity or safety channel continuity. DriveKNMS applies a DX200-specific test protocol that includes: powered backplane bus communication verification using a reference DX200 rack; dual-channel safety signal injection testing for FSU boards (OJANCD-YSF22B-E); servo interface loopback testing for JANCD-XMS02B; EtherNet/IP and PROFIBUS-DP network enumeration for communication boards; and 72-hour thermal soak at 55°C to screen for latent component failures. CPU boards (JANCD-XCP01C series) are tested with a known-good firmware image and verified for correct boot sequence, memory integrity, and pendant communication handshake. All test results are documented and shipped with each module.
