Technical Dossier
The MKS Baratron 624 series capacitance manometer is a precision absolute pressure transducer deployed across the most demanding process environments in global heavy industry — semiconductor fabrication, chemical vapor deposition (CVD), thin-film coating, nuclear fuel processing, petrochemical refining, and pharmaceutical manufacturing. The 624 series operates on the capacitance sensing principle: a tensioned Inconel or Hastelloy diaphragm deflects under process pressure, altering the capacitance between the diaphragm and a fixed reference electrode. This signal is conditioned into a linear DC voltage output (0–10 VDC or 0–5 VDC), providing gas-species-independent, absolute pressure measurement across ranges from 0.001 Torr to 1000 Torr.
Installed in tens of thousands of process chambers worldwide, the 624 series has become the de facto reference standard for vacuum process control in semiconductor OEM equipment from Applied Materials, Lam Research, Tokyo Electron, and ASML. Its heated-body variants (at 45°C, 100°C, and 200°C) prevent condensation of reactive process gases, making it the preferred sensor in ALD, PECVD, and etch tool platforms.
MKS Instruments introduced the Baratron capacitance manometer concept in the 1960s, establishing the foundational measurement architecture that persists in the 624 series today. The product line has passed through several distinct engineering generations:
First Generation (1970s–1980s): Analog signal conditioning with discrete component circuitry. Models such as the 122A and 170M established the Baratron brand in research vacuum systems. Temperature stability was limited; heated-body options were not yet standard.
Second Generation (1990s): Introduction of the 622 and 624 platform with integrated ASIC signal processing. The 624 replaced the 622 as the primary OEM-grade transducer. Full-scale ranges were standardized at 1, 10, 100, 1000 Torr. The 45°C heated body became standard for semiconductor applications. Connector standardization (15-pin D-sub) enabled direct integration with MKS 247, 651, and 252 flow and pressure controllers.
Third Generation (2000s–2010s): Introduction of the 628B and 629B as high-accuracy variants. The 624 series received enhanced EMI shielding, improved zero stability (<0.02% FS/°C), and extended cable options. The CENTON signal conditioning board (CPCB-00401, 20-005650-02) was introduced as a replaceable internal PCB assembly, enabling field-level repair without full transducer replacement.
Current Status (2020s): The 624 series is in the mature/end-of-active-production phase for many sub-variants. MKS has transitioned new designs toward the 626C and 627D platforms with digital (RS-485/DeviceNet) interfaces. However, the installed base of 624-series transducers in legacy semiconductor and industrial process tools remains enormous. Replacement demand for 624A, 624B, and associated PCB assemblies (KK5002C, CPCB-00401) is sustained by the multi-decade service life of process equipment in which they are embedded.

Accessories & Mounting Hardware
As MKS Instruments has progressively migrated its active product portfolio toward the 626C and 627D digital platforms, procurement of 624-series components — particularly internal PCB assemblies (KK5002C, CPCB-00401), heater elements (1900K1-1018), and cable harnesses (92-005649-0X) — has become increasingly difficult through standard distribution channels.
DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of MKS Baratron 624 series transducers and sub-assemblies sourced from decommissioned semiconductor tool lots, OEM overstock, and controlled secondary market channels. Our procurement team cross-references part numbers against MKS engineering change notices (ECNs) to ensure revision compatibility before shipment.
For end-users operating legacy Applied Materials Centura, Lam Research Versys, or TEL Trias platforms where 624-series transducers are embedded in the original tool BOM, DriveKNMS provides like-for-like replacement units with documented calibration traceability. We also supply the CENTON CPCB-00401 and 20-005650-02 PCB assemblies as standalone repair components, enabling cost-effective refurbishment of existing transducer bodies rather than full unit replacement.
Lifecycle extension contracts are available for facilities requiring guaranteed 624-series availability over a 3–5 year maintenance horizon.
