The Evolution of 5094 Flex 5000 Architecture

Rockwell Automation introduced the Flex 5000 platform as the architectural successor to the 1794 FLEX I/O series, which had served distributed I/O applications since the mid-1990s. The 1794 platform relied on dedicated communication adapters (e.g., 1794-AENT, 1794-AENTR) to bridge fieldbus protocols to the backplane, creating a two-layer communication dependency. The 5094 architecture eliminates this by embedding EtherNet/IP communication natively into the adapter module, reducing latency and simplifying network topology.

Early 5094 releases (circa 2017–2019) focused on standard digital and analog I/O. Quality Control for the 5094 Flex 5000 Range
