ABB CINT Series Technical Notes

The Evolution of CINT Series Architecture

The CINT series was introduced as ABB transitioned its drive platforms from proprietary serial communication to standardized fieldbus protocols during the mid-1990s. Early variants such as the CINT-01 provided basic RS-485 and DDCS (Distributed Drive Control System) connectivity, designed to operate within ABB's internal fiber-optic ring topology. As industrial automation standards matured, subsequent revisions introduced support for PROFIBUS-DP, Modbus RTU, and DeviceNet, reflecting the industry's shift toward open protocol architectures.

The CINT-01C represents a refined iteration within this lineage, incorporating improved EMC shielding, revised firmware compatibility for ACS800 series drives, and updated optical transceiver specifications. Compatibility between CINT generations is not universal: CINT-01 and CINT-01B boards are not pin-compatible with CINT-01C in all drive configurations, and firmware version alignment between the interface board and the drive's RMIO control board is mandatory. Plants operating mixed-generation ACS800 fleets must maintain accurate revision-level records to avoid communication faults during board replacement.

CINT Series Full Catalog & Functionalities (SKU List)

The following SKUs represent verified models within the ABB CINT and closely related RDCO/RDNA communication interface families used across ACS600, ACS800, and related drive platforms. Each entry reflects a distinct hardware revision or protocol variant:

CINT-01: Original DDCS fiber-optic interface board for ACS600 drives, single-channel.
CINT-01B: Revised DDCS interface with updated optical transceiver; ACS600/ACS800 compatible.
CINT-01C: Current-generation DDCS interface board; improved EMC, ACS800 primary fitment.
CINT-02: Dual-channel DDCS interface board for master-follower drive configurations.
RDCO-01C: DDCS communication option board; direct functional equivalent in ACS800 slot architecture.
RDCO-02C: Dual-channel DDCS option board; used in multi-drive line-up synchronization.
RDCO-03C: DDCS option board with extended fiber cable length support.
RDNA-01: DeviceNet adapter board for ACS800; replaces CINT in DeviceNet-based plant networks.
RPBA-01: PROFIBUS-DP adapter module; fieldbus alternative to CINT in PROFIBUS installations.
RMBA-01: Modbus RTU adapter board; used where CINT DDCS topology is replaced by Modbus.
RCAN-01: CANopen adapter board for ACS800 drives in CANopen network segments.
RETA-01: Ethernet adapter board (Modbus TCP); modern replacement path for legacy CINT deployments.
RETA-02: Ethernet/IP and Modbus TCP dual-protocol adapter; current-generation network interface.
RCNA-01: ControlNet adapter board for ACS800; used in Rockwell-integrated plant architectures.
RLON-01: LonWorks network adapter for ACS800; deployed in building automation and utility sectors.
RFID-01: Interbus adapter board for ACS800 drives in Interbus-S network topologies.

Sourcing Hard-to-Find & Obsolete CINT Series Parts

For facilities operating ACS800 or ACS600 drives under long-term service agreements — particularly in regulated industries such as nuclear, chemical processing, and water infrastructure — DriveKNMS provides documented traceability for each unit, including revision level, firmware version compatibility notes, and functional test records. Minimum order quantities are not required. Emergency urgent RFQ handling is available for critical plant situations. All units are shipped with anti-static packaging and individual test certification.

Quality Control for the CINT Series Range

CINT-series boards present specific test challenges due to their reliance on DDCS fiber-optic communication protocol, which requires active drive-side hardware to validate signal integrity. DriveKNMS employs a dedicated ACS800 drive test bench configured with RMIO-11C control boards to perform end-to-end functional validation of each CINT unit prior to dispatch.
