The ABB PFSK series represents a core family of communication and interface modules deployed within the ABB Advant Controller 400 series (AC 400) and Master automation systems. These modules are installed across critical global heavy industries including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, offshore platforms, pulp and paper mills, and large-scale chemical processing plants. The PFSK series handles fieldbus communication, inter-module data exchange, and supervisory link functions within the Advant OCS (Open Control System) architecture. Due to the long operational lifecycles typical of DCS infrastructure — often exceeding 20–30 years — PFSK modules remain in active service at facilities worldwide, making reliable spare parts sourcing a primary operational concern for maintenance engineers.
The PFSK series was introduced as part of ABB's Advant Controller platform in the late 1980s and evolved through the 1990s alongside the AC 400 and AC 450 controller families. Early PFSK modules operated on the Advant Fieldbus 100 (AF 100) protocol, providing deterministic communication between process stations and operator workstations. As ABB transitioned toward the Industrial IT and then System 800xA platforms in the 2000s, the PFSK series entered a maintenance-only lifecycle phase.
