The Evolution of TK801 Architecture

The TK801 series was introduced alongside the AC500 platform (launched circa 2005) as ABB's successor to the Advant/Master and Freelance 2000 controller families. Early AC500 deployments used the Modulebus — a proprietary serial backplane bus — to connect CPUs housed in TB5xx bus terminal units to remote I/O terminal units.
