Technical Dossier
The GE Fanuc DS215 series constitutes the core I/O, control, and communication module family of the Mark V Turbine Control System (TCS), one of the most widely deployed distributed control platforms in heavy industrial environments globally. Installations span gas turbine power generation plants, combined-cycle facilities, petrochemical refineries, LNG terminals, and nuclear auxiliary systems across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific. The Mark V platform—and by extension the DS215 module family—remains operational in thousands of baseload and peaking power stations, many of which are committed to multi-decade operational lifespans. The DS215 series provides the physical hardware layer for turbine protection, sequencing, I/O conditioning, and inter-panel communication within the Mark V R, S, and T redundant control cores.
The DS215 module family was introduced alongside the GE Fanuc Mark V platform in the early 1990s as a successor to the Mark IV system. The architecture is built around a proprietary backplane bus—the IONET serial communication network—which interconnects all I/O and processor modules within a Mark V panel. Early DS215 revisions (suffix codes A1A, A1B) established the baseline electrical and firmware specifications. Subsequent revisions introduced improved EMI shielding, enhanced EEPROM capacity, and revised conformal coating standards for high-humidity environments.
