Technical Dossier
The GE IS200 series represents the core I/O, control, and communication module family deployed within GE's Mark VI and Mark VIe Turbine Control Systems. These systems are installed across global heavy industry sectors including petrochemical refineries, nuclear power stations, combined-cycle gas turbine plants, and offshore oil & gas platforms. The Mark VI platform, introduced in the mid-1990s, replaced the earlier Mark V architecture and established the IS200 module form factor as the standard for GE turbine control hardware. Installed base estimates place Mark VI and Mark VIe systems in thousands of facilities across North America, Europe, the Middle East, and Asia-Pacific, making IS200 series modules among the most widely maintained DCS spare parts in the industrial automation aftermarket.
The IS200 module family was engineered to operate within GE's VME-based backplane architecture, using a proprietary high-speed serial bus (IONet) for inter-module communication. Early Mark VI deployments (circa 1995–2005) relied on the UCSC, VCMI, and VCRH board families for core I/O and communication functions. The transition to Mark VIe (circa 2006 onward) introduced Ethernet-based I/O communication via the ENET and IONET protocols, while retaining physical compatibility with many IS200-footprint modules through adapter boards.
Key architectural generations:
Compatibility note: IS200 modules are not universally interchangeable across generations. Firmware revision, backplane slot assignment, and I/O configuration files (ToolboxST) must be verified before substitution. End-of-life (EOL) notices have been issued for multiple Gen 1 modules; however, GE continues to supply select replacement boards through its Parts & Repairs division, and the aftermarket supply chain remains active.
The following SKUs represent verified, commonly stocked IS200 series modules. Classification follows functional role within the Mark VI/VIe control architecture.
Controllers & Processor Modules
Digital I/O Modules
Analog I/O Modules
Communication & Network Modules
Power Supply Modules
IS200 modules present specific test challenges due to their VME backplane interface, proprietary IONet serial protocol, and multi-layer PCB construction. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all IS200 units prior to dispatch:
