Technical Dossier
Q: How are RFQ terms confirmed?
A: Quantity, required condition, documentation needs, destination and sourcing route are confirmed during RFQ review before quotation.
The HC900 platform was introduced by Honeywell as a mid-range hybrid controller bridging the gap between standalone PLCs and full DCS installations. Early generations used the C30, C50, and C70 CPU modules with a proprietary backplane bus operating at fixed scan rates. The architecture evolved through several hardware revisions:
Generation 1 (Legacy): C30/C50 CPUs with 900-series I/O racks, limited to local rack I/O expansion via the HC900 rack bus. Ethernet connectivity was optional and limited to supervisory SCADA integration.
Generation 2 (ControlEdge Transition): Introduction of the C75 CPU and expanded remote I/O capability via the HC900 Remote I/O Scanner. This generation introduced dual-port Ethernet and improved function block execution capacity.
Generation 3 (ControlEdge HC900): Full rebranding to ControlEdge HC900. Enhanced cybersecurity features, expanded memory, and compatibility with Experion PKS integration. The 900B-series I/O modules (including the 900B16-0202) were introduced or revised in this generation to support higher channel density and improved signal conditioning.
Compatibility note: 900-series I/O modules are generally backward-compatible across CPU generations at the rack level, but firmware versions must be validated when mixing legacy and ControlEdge-generation CPUs in the same system. Customers migrating from C30/C50 to C75 CPUs must verify I/O module firmware revision compatibility via Honeywell's compatibility matrix.

The HC900 platform spans multiple product generations, and several early-generation modules — including C30/C50 CPUs and first-generation 900G/900H I/O modules — have reached end-of-sale status with Honeywell. DriveKNMS maintains a dedicated inventory of tested surplus and refurbished HC900 modules to support plants operating legacy configurations where a full DCS migration is not operationally or economically viable.
HC900 modules use a proprietary backplane bus protocol for rack communication. Standard bench testing is insufficient to validate module health — functional testing must replicate live rack conditions. DriveKNMS applies the following test protocol to all HC900 modules processed through its facility:
Q: How is condition confirmed before quotation?
A: Available condition, photos, test records and documentation are checked according to the requested model and sourcing channel before a formal RFQ response.
